Thinking of buying a Jake C with an Elwood C fretless neck.

Adrian's Youtube videos of his fretlesses sound incredible but I've read the quality has diminished as his volume has increased. Pretty sure some parts are made in Germany and others overseas.

Anyone have a fretless they bought in the last year or two? YouTube clips?

Here's my current idea. Recommendations? Looking for a modern bright sound primarily. Think more Pino, less dark compressed tone. P/J pickup config. Pic attached but the details are slightly off - site isn't updating the bass when I change all the components.

I can't comment on new basses, as mine are already a few years old.

Afaik, the standard neck profile is always "modern C", regardless of model. So if you want a thinner jazz type neck, you will have to ask for it specifically.

Hi guys ,

nothing in Maruszczyk instruments is made overseas. 100% made in Poland from rough wood that Adrian buys himself.

every single bass is made for stock or to order.

For example a gloss neck will change the neck pocket fit , as there's a few layers of poly on it. Which is something a contractor won't deal with. Ever.

I'm sort of thinking that a 4 string, 24 fret Jake model with a P/humbucker setup might be pretty much my ideal custom bass. One question: how is the upper fret access? On the custom builder, the upper fret access looks terrible in the provided image on the 24 fret version, like the body is clearly made with 21 frets in mind. But I see basses around that look like they have nice upper register access, like this one:

SOLD - *reduced* Maruszczyk Jake 4p 24 w/z Aguilar, charcoal frost

So, if you get one custom built, does how do you get it with the nice fret access cut away like in the link?

You are right, the configurator does not consider all details. For example, the visualisation doesn't show the scale length either (it even says so on the little "i" you can click on).

I found these two pics thanks to Google. Fret access appears to be good to me.

those are basses that i ordered from Adrian. One is available.

The access to 24 frets is perfect.

I asked the same question on the facebook group before ordering my Elwood. I got photos from members. The access is FAR better than the configurator indicates. But, I will say that it's not as good as my other 24 fret basses. I got an Elwood C, so I can't compare this to the Jake. Some of my complaint may be resolved by the Elwood L body, or even the Jake body. The positioning isn't really the problem, it's the size of the bouts. If I could get anything I wanted in the world out of Adrian, it would be an Elwood C designed from the ground up with 24 frets in mind (and then more generally a slimmer/trimmer body in mind).

The Elwood L 24-fret has incredible access and a nice cutaway. The configurator doesn't show that.

I'm kinda bummed to hear about this, as I was preparing to buy a Maruszczyk. Also, did they give you a fingerboard with a crack at the end of it? This pic looks like there is a crack at the (E string side) end of the fretboard?

Even so, the ratio between these cases (where we have mostly only heard one side to the story) and the hundreds, perhaps even thousands of basses Maruszczyk / Mensinger have produced so far wouldn't worry me. It also happens that I have had 3 basses made in 6 years with no problems, including a headless.
