The Official MTD USA Thread

Hey all~

If you haven't seen the MTD shop tour videos from TMNTV on Youtube then you should give them a look. Pretty interesting stuff.

In one segment he describes the bass that he pictured below for Larry Allman (sp?) from Euphonic Audio - 34" scale with a chambered body and the obvious change in pickups, although he doesn't really discuss the electronics.

He also mentions that Lynn Keller (sp?...again) orders 32" scale from him.

Again...more fun MTD stuff!

Yeah that's Larry Ullman. I have a 435 that Mike built for him in 1996. Great instrument. (thanks to TBer mrcircle!)

Beautiful …. just beautiful!:p
So I gotta ask, do you have a favorite?
PS-All stunning by the way!!!:hyper:

Thanks!

Each have some nice & particular features, but they all have the "MTD sounding".

If I had to keep only one, it would be the 535 w/ tulipwood body, because of the great playability and great tone. I don't know why, but it seems that wenge/wenge neck on the 535 ash is thicker than on the 535 tulipwood. I also like the 21 fret feeling when playing slap.

Apology not accepted. You'll have to convince the current owner to send me the bass so I can take decent pictures of it and repost. :ninja: ;) :D

P.S. Seriously tho, sorry the trade didn't work out for you. :(

That's my bass. It was the 6 string that I would have traded for... :crying:

I don't know, though. Maybe it's good I didn't trade for it, I really do love this bass.

Thanks for the pat on the back. :)

Here's mine:

#855, it is a splated maple top on a mahogany body with a maple neck and board. Altogether it makes one amazing bass, it is the best bass I'm likely to ever own or to play, well until I've got another one, and seeing all the others in this thread alone is not helping matters;) And especially being in England, 535's are very rare to come by, I'm just glad I jumped at the opportunity when I did!

Also for a laugh, I'm probally right in guessing that the ratio for bassists over here who own a 535 is much much smaller than it is over in the U.S, I'm guessing it's 1 out of every 500 bassists in England has one, whereas in America it's probally 1 out of every 100:)

And one last photo for porn's sake:smug::

Oh, you're a deadman... you just wait... ;) :D

For the rest of you, this is a running joke with B.C. and I because the Champaign/Urbana Mass Transit District has "MTD" branding all over the place. It may not be real obvious from this pic tho. :)

With the different trials that my family has been through in the last 3 years (including financial) I never thought I would own another MTD again. Needless to say, I'm blessed to own the following basses. Just wanted to share some examples from the man I consider to be the finest luthier around today.
