The Official MTD USA Thread

I need some advice. I looking for a set of strings that will give add more growl or punch to the sound. I currently have MTD Nickle, I also tried MTD SS. They are great strings but i am looking for a strings that still gives clear sound but with some punch or growl. Any recommendations? ??

Send Jason from Bass Strings Online a message (TB username: Slapinfunk). He can probably give you the best advice regarding your options.

Have you tried DR Lo Riders?

What are the difference between both the DR LR and Sadowsky BS?

I'll qualify my suggestion because I haven't used either on an MTD - when I used to have a 535 years ago I used Hi Beams and the MTD steels. But on many other basses I've played, both the Lo Riders and Sadowsky Blue Steels have nice grind. The Lo Riders with grind in a more mid mid frequency and the BS in more of a hi mid frequency. The Lo Riders may be bit more punchy. So tough to compare when on different basses though because the strings are just a small part of the sound. Just about all of the stainless steel sets are gonna be in the same family of tone. So we're talking subtle differences.

My MTD family is now complete! I'm discovering that makore body wood makes for stellar tone! To my ears...warm, yet more clear/articulate than my alder AG5. Imo, this 634 has a nice strong bottom and sweet treble. Mike clarified for me that the titanium neck bars indeed "tend to bring out the bottom end, while leaving the treble intact." Absolutely NO complaints about my AG5 34" (8.7 lbs)...this 634 (10.0 lbs) compliments it very nicely!

Hi guys. It's been a week, but my MTD finally came in and I'm ecstatic! It's a great bass and it looks so beautiful. Kudos to Mike and Daniel Tobias as well as our own Anton Tanzil here on the MTD thread. Anton was a great dealer to work with and very knowledgeable.

This is my MTD 534-24. It has a Quilted Maple Top, Northern Ash Body, Flamed Maple Neck w/ Titanium, and a Macassar Ebony Fretboard. It has a passive tone w/ push pull mids

Namuxtree...sweeeeeet bass! A lot of nice options there...how are the controls (and mid freqs) laid out?
Btw, congrats!!

Thank you and likewise! I may put in an order for a 634-24 17mm seeing how yours is so beautiful. The controls are nearly the same, only the passive tone takes the spot of the mid switch and it's at 400/800Hz. This setup is the perfect blend between the regular 534 and saratoga.
