The Official MTD USA Thread

Anyone have basses with these crazy beautiful blue/yellow/green finishes? Let’s see those Nebulas, Ocean Fades and what have you! :)
Nope, just still the only Nightfall fade I think that's out there so far - indigo/purple/black ;)

I watched a 2019 MTD shop tour on YouTube last night. Was amazed at how small their "facility" is - literally a shed in the woods! :D And I love how much work is done by hand, and also the ancient machines and tools that they use. Very nice guys, too. Watching this made me really proud to own one of their instruments, and also made me want to order another. :)

My wife wants to send them a care package and a warm blanket - they HAVE to be cold in there in winter! :D

You'll honestly be hard pressed to find two nicer humans and spending time at the shop is definitely one of my favorite ways to hang with them. I mean, who wouldn't want to hang out at Santa's Workshop?! :roflmao:

I'm curious to know what people are using to polish or clean their MTD bodies, and what you're using to oil your boards. I have Pau Ferro and Wenge boards on my 535 and 434, and I really want to avoid anything that might add its own color tint or dye. I used to have a wax that Mike recommended for my older 635, but I seem to have misplaced it after several moves.

I don’t think I’ve ever cleaned the bodies of my MTDs. :bag: Just a swipe with a polish cloth once in a while to remove dust. For fingerboards I use Planet Waves Hydrate.

Last time I bought MTD strings was from Bass Strings Online (now Fret Nation) but that was years ago. I don’t know if Jason still carries them.
Yeah, same here. It looks like these are getting difficult to find. I was meaning to try something new anyway. My 434 arrived with D'Addario EXL220s and I kinda like them. I believe @SeanOnBass is using GHS super steels, and I've been curious about those as well. Probably drop to a lighter gauge too.

I'm all about light gauges, and I'm all about those super steels. Pretty much every video I've made with my MTDs is pretty indicative of that sound, or at least my version of it if anyone is curious!

I've been trending toward light guage on all my basses. My 535 arrived with the stock medium gauge, and they sounded really good for a long time, but they are fairly high tension and getting pretty dull now.

I do like the sound you're getting from them. Probably wouldn't sound exactly the same (different electronics, different woods, different player), but I think the articulation would really come through. I've been curious about them for a while, so I think I'll start with those and see how they work for me.

I typically use just a microfiber cloth for the body; for the wenge board, I use this stuff:

Guitar Fretboard Cleaner and Conditioner - F-ONE Oil for All Unfinished Fretboards - MusicNomad - Music Nomad

Looks fantastic! What are the specs?

thanks for the compliment.

534-24 MTD
Ash Body
Roasted Maple Neck
Rosewood Fretboard (Cool Story)
Figured Walnut Top
Bartolini Pickups
Bartolini Super Preamp
34” Scale
18.5mm String Spacing
9.1lbs

I love the super pre but didn’t love the pickup position so I missed the two things I love and it worked perfectly.
