Someone gave me one of those, same color but with a rosewood fingerboard. It was pretty trashed when He gave it to me so this was became of it.
My Dingwall NG3, MTD Norm Stockton and MTD Artist 4. Love em all.

An ebay gamble paid off and apparently made me the 3rd TB member to own this bass.
While browsing for broken basses to fix and flip, I came across what was listed as a "Fender standard jazz bass with black and gold accents" and no additional details about the parts. The photos weren't great, but I could see "Hipshot" on the tuners, a fuzzy area on the pickups that could possibly be a Nordstrand "N" and enough knobs to indicate a preamp of some sort. The serial number came back as unknown which meant a wildcard neck on what I determined was a Squier Contemporary Jazz body based on the rear control cavity. So, I took a gamble, sent an offer well below the asking price (with a note explaining how this definitely wasn't a Fender Standard Jazz bass) and received this beast in the mail a few days later.
The gamble paid off:
Hipshot Ultralite tuners
Fender roasted maple jazz neck
Nordstrand Big Split pickups
Nordstrand 2band preamp
Wilkinson bridge (eh, it works fine)
Squier contemporary jazz body with a traditional jazz front control plate added.
All for about the price of the neck alone, or a new Squier. Sweet
It had gold knobs but I quickly switched those out for black ones from the parts bin
The controls are set up much like the Darkglass contemporary jazz bass i put together a while back: push/pull active/passive volume knob, blend, passive tone and then EQ controls.
At the moment, the volume knob rolls off a little treble like a tone knob with no reduction in volume, so I'll have to take a look at what's going on there.
I found an earlier NBD thread here on TB which has a reference to an even earlier FS ad on TB, so I'm at least the 3rd TB owner if this thing. But I'd say I'm owner 5ish based on info in that thread and who I bought it from.
I still need to finish setting it up, then I'll finally spend some time seeing what sounds I can get out of it. I have some potential mods in mind depending on how it plays. Fun stuff

My latest “project” parts bass. Going for that modern vintage vibe. It’s a Squier CV 50s body (contoured like a ‘54 because I can’t do slab bodies). Seymour Duncan SCPB-3 pickup. Chinese made, reverse tele headstock neck, 1.5” nut, bound and blocked. Warmoth pearl pickguard and Gotoh Resolite tuners. Strung with EB Cobalt flats.
It plays great and sounds great. I’m very happy with it.

Got my second bass recently, another Squier! Classic Vibe 60s fretless Jazz Bass! Swapped the bridge right away, I have never liked the standard stamped ones. But wow! These indonesian made Squiers are great, good fretless sound and feel.
Went from having zero Music Man basses to having 2.5 Music Man basses in one month’s time lol. Not the greatest photo but wanted to share a group shot.

Found a secondhand Aria STB-PB-DX.
The previous owner bought it years ago, but never bothered learning to play it, so it's as new.
There was still plastic on the pickguard, but the bass was setup perfect.
Strange choice of pickguard colour, IMO a black one would suit the sunburst better.
Unfortunately, the spare black P-style pickguard wouldn't fit, after drilling an extra hole for the volume pot. The Aria pickguard is a little wider, so part of the control cavity would be semi-open.
And, it is active only, but sounds really good.
Usually I prefer passive basses, but this one's okay, eventhough there's no passive option.

These two Fenders look fantastic ! Are they original or refinished ?
Are there others pictures of these basses on TB ?
