Just got this yesterday. Always been a fan of thunderbird (such an apt name for a bass) and a used epiphone was in my budget. I love the lack of upper horn because I pluck up around the 12-20th frets a lot for a really rich, pure bass tone. Plus, the neck-body piece being thicker than the wings provides an excellent thumb rest from neck to bridge for maximum, comfortable tone variance with different plucking positions.

Thanks, I got the five string fretless.... I'm not that much of a 5 string player but I watched a monster player play one on YouTube and thought got to myself...... if he can do that, I can and want to too.

I'm thinking about buying a 4 string fretted model also. The thing is I have enough cash for 1 new bass right now and I'm torn between a Rick 4003 and a Lightwave fretted 4 string.

Great bass! Are those tape wounds? If so, which gauge and did you have to file out the nut?

Hi, yes they are D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewounds. (.50, .65, .85, .105) No alterations to the nut, no reset up for intonation needed either. I just took off the factory strings, and strung it with the Nylons. I use them on everything.

Nice! The reason I ask, is that I have a set of Rotosound Trubass88 strings I wanted to try on a Jazz bass, but the E string is .115 !

The 115 may or may not fit the nut slot properly depending on how much slop there is in the slot. I would push down on the string in the slot once you have it up to pitch and see how well it seats. Are the Roto's tapewounds?.

Yes , they are tapes.

Since they are tapes then the outer lay may compress enough/ get shoved aside enough to seat in the slot.

Ok thanks. I've filed out a nut before to fit a .110 E string, but I'll only do it it if I have to as it's easy to over file and ruin the nut!

I was told it was a 72. The serial says it was built in 70 though. I think it may have been bought new in 72 and that might be the confusion
