I know what you are saying. I have small hands and it is a stretch, but I will get used to it. Going from narrow 5 string spacing to this is a jump, but I do find I can find the string with my plucking hand better both finger style and with a pick. I have a Peavey V Foundation that does a pretty good jazz bass tone (maybe better(blasphemy)) so now all I need is a P bass! This has tons of tones to explore. For now.............Aaaaaaagh GAS!

Jazz Special

The Geddy lee was my main bass for a few years until I found the Special. Same neck but rosewood. Then a month later I found he California Series and that was a huge improvement over both. That Alien was the first bass I bought after the ex-wife made me sell my Rick which, coincidently, is a big part of why she is now my ex.

I know this was posted a while ago and I would have sent a PM so as not to annoy but the poster is a 'guest' so I can't contact him any other way that I know of.

So, how is the Ibby 180? If you're still around could you give a review if not here then maybe over at the Ibby club?

It’s very light. I believe it’s described as a semi-hallow body...4 chambers held together by bracing.
It’s So light that I asked the guy who’s made 8 or 9 straps for me to use a thinner, more flexible leather for this one...and he did, but he made it a tic too short, so it feels a bit out of place, playing it a tic too high on my body.
The single big, fat pickup Right at the base of the neck sounds...how shall I put this...Big and Fat.
It’s easy to get that ‘fart in church’ growl. I string it with 45-100s for a lighter, airyer tone.
The neck is chunky...deep but thin and quick. I had a bit of a fret dressing done on this one when I got it...made it feel almost ‘slinky’...which is not a word you would associate with an EB-1... :D
Of course, I bought it (my original...That one’s long gone...this one is an eBay purchase from about 4 yrs ago...reliving my teens and all that...:)) cuz I thought Felix Pappalardi was the coolest, heaviest bass player alive! Who didn’t want to BE F.P. for an hour or two (in 1970).
Of course, cutting grass money wasn’t gonna get me a Gibson, so when I found this model on the wall at Poughkeepsie Music, I counted up all my quarters, and prolly made $ome kind of deal with my Mom, and grabbed it to go... :thumbsup:
I let the original go in 1974...after I bought my Ric 4001 off the wall at Terminal Music in NYC.
I traded the Univox in as part of a deal on a new Traynor...100w into 2x15s.
Gawd, I thought I was the Lord of the Low End!:roflmao:

I think you got it wrong here. Here's my Dean JB sig Std made in Czech. It has the parallel tuners and it is one of the early models (check the serial) with an angled headstock!
I owned a later model of the same bass with the off set peg heads and a non angled headstock (which was an issue) and a very unstable neck.
This one that I have now has a great neck and feels much more solid. I think it sounds better too.

They made these parallel like pictured AND offset in the CZECH version. Believe me, I do not have it wrong. Been researching this puppy for almost 5 years now.
