I had one of these in the early 80's. I bought it new and traded my Musicmaster in plus a couple hundred dollars. It was natural like the yours on the right. I gigged with it for a couple of years, then it let me down when I broke the E string at a 1 day recording session, and I had to borrow my friend's EB to do the track (I think there was a bur on the bridge saddle.) I traded it as a down payment on a Ric 4001. Wish I still had it now. They're rare as hen's teeth.

Both of mine are great basses, but the blond is a marvel.

Nope that's a 1960 that i had refinished in 1985 Oly white with the original pickguard that was on the bass when I bought it in 74. I had it off the bass in storage for many years when I was on the road with the 60. About 8 years ago I put it back on.

Someone pulled the frets out and it is a fun thing to.monkey around with but I have trouble keeping it anywhere near in tune. Thinking about putting new tuners on it and making a new pick guard. Insure wish I could find out it's history.

I did a Google search for 1960's bass, and it looks like a Kay 5915

Very nice. Are those the tapewound gold? How would you describe their sound compared to typical roundwound and flatwound?

yes.
It’s still early but I would like to say they have a VERY well defined sound. Clear, cutting, exact.
I’ve found the initial tension to be a bit high but I’m hoping that will change slightly. I do wish the E was tapered but not really a big deal.

they may be the best sounding flats I’ve tried which I didn’t expect going in. I just saw them as a new option to take a shot at. This bass May wear them for life now though depending on how they age.
