Man that St. Blues sure is pretty!
Its National Guitar Day. So I took a couple of fresh cell phone pics of my Carvin/Kiesel Icon 5.
I'm guessing that's a scrubbed ash or malpe?
Just got this beautiful Valenti yesterday
They calle it "Antique Ash Treatment" or "AAT". Its like a dark grey/graphite colored stain which they cover the ash with. And then they use an electric sander to sand it back to taste. Some of them come out pretty wild. Some are more mild. Depends upon the piece of wood, but also the discretion of the person sanding.
The neck is Walnut with White Limba (Korina) stripes.

Vintage uncertain, probably 1910-ish German made. Dog is fascinated by the tennis ball end-pin. Sounds wonderful, but I have no idea really how to play it. My teenage son will get a lot more use out of it in his jazz combo than I will, but it's nominally "mine" for now.
Nice - focus on left hand positioning and ear-training and once that becomes natural your prior bass-playing knowledge will take over. That and strengthening your hands!

Wow! I’ve never seen fretboard edges that rounded before. How does it feel?
Plays like butter. Have played many basses in the past. This one is by far the best neck, at least for my hands.
