The official "Show your basses" thread part 19!

Now that the kids are gone I have taken over the basement and mostly play there so I can be loud without bothering neighbors, but still keep an amp and all but one bass in my man-cave/office. Since I now spend 12 hours a day in that room I took a few pictures. Small but it’s my happy place. Like a cocoon. Hope I never have to go back to commuting and working in a regular office.

Steve

I see you have one of the little tube Ampeg amps. Which one do you have the 20/50. How do you like it.

thanks

Lenny

It's the PF50 and I'm a fan. Originally was bothered by the hum but there's a whole thread on TB about a simple mod to get rid of the hum. Did that and now it's very quiet. The new ones may come that way from the factory. Jimmy Miller might know.

My favorite feature is the fact that it can run without a speaker load. That means you can use it as a preamp if you need more power or if you just want to be able to crank the heck out of it and get power tube distortion. If you come out of the transformer DI output and go into another amp you can use it like a preamp and get as much dirt as you want similar to if you had a power soak.

I had a little Ashdown before this and put the Ampeg SCR DI pedal in front of it. I liked the tone so much that I figured it would be better to have the real thing.

Well thank you very much for the kind words and here are some links with tons of pictures and information about each one. I haven't done a family picture in a long time and probably should. The man cave pictures contain four of my 6 bass lineup. The other two are the solid koa one and a Breedlove acoustic both of which are in the bedroom. :)

I haven't built anything new for myself in a couple of years. Getting the itch to do another Ptcoustic with different wood, pickup and strings.

Made... as in the is a Lobstah Original?

Is the leftover hole from the tremolo/sustain block going to be for a means of "alternate picking?!?!?!?!" o_O

Yup! Didn't like cut or paint it, but took a cheap strat body from Guitarfetish.com, routed out the neck pocket with a dremel, installed an rondo neck, threw in 3x '51 P pickups (roughly the same size as strat pickups), used a strat wiring harness, and here we are! I need to add a string tree and set it up a little more (and secure the pickguard), but she's an original :).... and surprisingly sounds pretty good.

I'm currently setting up for my next project bass... My 3 *pairs* of J Pups are enroute... I'me just trying to determine if I just pull the trigger on a Glarry as a low-risk mod platform.

I'm surprised you haven't reviewed them yet, actually...
