Nothing fancy, though I did switch out the hardware on the Schecters to chrome. The tuners on the G&L have been also been replaced with more durable Schallers. The guitar is a Warmoth parts thing that I put together a few years ago.

:) Thanks! Yes, it's a tilt-neck port. They were made from '66-68 but has no serial# so no way to know exactly which year. Here's the full story on it - Hornet Crackle Kraze Batman! Craquelure effect finish

I guess the colour could be called Dragons Breath. :D

Looked like this right? It was the only finish it came in. (except someone has the wood bridge upside down on this one)

Yeap that looks like the finish, but I do not remember the tug bar and I thought it had "Silvertone" written big on the head stock. But this pic is a nice looking piece of history.

Yes, it came with a tug bar (like on my other Hornet) but like bridge covers, many get taken off and lost. And the Silvertone hs badge is usually broken or gone. I was lucky to have mine still attached and in good condition on the red/black one - it's thin chromed plastic with two tiny toothpick sizes spikes pressure fit into two small holes (no glue). I bought an aftermarket clone for my other one and as you can see it is larger. I also added another string restraint to pull the E string lower. Both necks needed work to get then playing nice. These are very cool basses that sound and play great! There are many available on Reverb for varying prices. Ones with the OHSC are gold as it's a very long bass and won't fit in a Fender case. Luckily it just fits in a gig-bag.

What to critically look for Lenny; I now own two Hornets and one Coral (Dano) Deluxe Bass. The CDB is different but similar. All were made in that '66-'68 period. Both have no tr, instead having two steel bars to keep the neck straight. The neck wood is poplar like the body, so not as hard as maple. My CDB has a grafted-on rosewood hs and a different hs shape but the necks are made the same. The Coral neck was very good - very straight/level and I only needed minimal fret-leveling in a couple places. Pretty amazing for a 50+ yr old bass. The Hornets however both had neck issues that required a lot of fretwork to get a nice action w/o buzzing. Everything else is minor compared to neck issues. Making sure the neck isn't bower or twisted is key - if the action is set high, that is potentially a red flag. So ask questions and make sure there is a return policy.

:) Thanks! It's a really great bass in every way and you don't see a lot of them out there. It was essentially a RI of the early '60s Dano Dane which is even rarer. This pristine example sold on Reverb years ago - I wish I would have stumbled on it first!

I don't know much about that model, but it is a short-scale (30") 1444. The Dano Dane, Silvertone Hornet and CDB were the only 34" scale basses Dano made. (that I am aware of) It has 24 frets like the '50s Longhorn "tick-tok" basses. Interesting wear on the lower horn - must have been played in the nose-bleed section a lot! I haven't played a one pu 1442L (pic) so can't say how it would sound, but the lipsticks favor mids/treble generally, which would offer a sound good for doubling and bass-lead playing. Sorry for the thread highjack! :)
