The official "Show your basses" thread part 19!

Finally got around to taking of few photos of my rescued early 70's Hagstrom's. Left is the 74 Swede bass that's been brought back to life after the headstock was broken off. On the right is the 73 H-II-BN that was rescued when a previous owned decided to sand the neck and headstock removing the poly finish and headstock logos. The neck and headstock have been refinished and new logos applied.

Both basses play and sound great, to look and play them you would never know what both have been through.

I played something like that 74 Swede in a music shop once... I was blown away at the tone! Twas a bit heavy but sounded amazing!

Not exactly an impulse buy, but I did decide this week I want one. I already have a Bronco bass, but I thought I'd like to upgrade to something a little nicer for a short scale.

My local Guitar Center had one so I stopped in to see how it feels. For an off the wall bass I was happy with it. The action was a little high, but there were no high frets and the fretboard looked nice.

Now that it's home I'm pretty happy with it. It's nice & punchy and extremely light.

I do have a couple small issues.

For one, there was no sheilding at all. Not the worst thing in the world for a "humbucking" pickup, but it did have some hum and rubbing the pickguard produced static. Not a hard fix, but I kind of hoped they would have taken care of that in the factory.

The other thing is my low E string is surprisingly low output compared to the rest of the strings. It sounds much quieter and there isn't much power behind it. Can't be the pickup because the A string sounds great, so I'll need to troubleshoot.

I'll probably change the pickguard to pearloid to give it a more interesting look at some point too.
