Thanks, Jason! That was PRECISELY my goal. Funny, I kinda' made it a big deal with Pete I really wanted the burst, but I wanted it to be real subtle for this exact reason. Well, he sent me email all concerned about it being too dark... had me all worried, then I saw the pics and I couldn't figure out what the heck he was worried about. It was exactly as I'd hoped.vision said:By the way...this birdseye quilted maple has got to be one of my favorite tops ever! It has a great balance of being extremely rare and stunning while still being classy and not too over the top.
Truth be told, I got HUGELY lucky on this... not because it requires luck for Pete to turn out magic like this, but more because I just fell into this opportunity... at the right place at the right time. He hooked me up with some "special reserve" topwood that wasn't even on his site, because he wanted to guarantee it'd end up on a Skjold, and I benefited from a little build acceleration to meet a deadline that really had nothing to do with me personally, so it all just was sorta' meant to be. I'm blessed to own it. Ironically, it's also one of the few basses I've played that can sound great even in church, and that takes some doing in ours.
