I am glad that you are digging that mahogany/walnut bass, Vic. Your thoughts very much mirror my own experiences with that bass (which reminds me VERY much of my own mahogany bodied Custom 5, to be honest). That bass - and your PSD5 - will serve you well for years to come. :)

And regarding Pete's current/probably status as one of the top bass luthiers, all I can say is that I have been privileged to have been able to play and own some very fine instruments. And while I certainly have instruments which I consider to be the equal of a Skjold (though that list is pretty short!), I don't know of any which I would consider the better of a Skjold. IME/IMHO, Pete is already in some very good company, and he seems to be pushing the envelope further and further every day.

This is Tom Bowlus, and I approve this message. :D

Very cool. Yeah, I finally "get" the Mahogany thing, tho I must admit I still generally favor ash.

BTW, I'm also finally learning about series mode. Believe it or not, this is my first bass with a series mode. OH MY GOSH! I've heard you (and others) talk about series mode before, but now I actually "get it". Thing is, I had to play in a mix (along with some practice cover material) to really hear how cool it is. Otherwise, solo, it kinda' just generally sounds louder with maybe more mids, but really, it's much more than that.

Wow, I just got a chance to watch all those videos. I just want to know if mine is done yet :p

Oh yeah, Paul. Of course yours is done. That's why Pete has time to play all those basses.;)

Sorry Pete. I couldn't resist!

They really are a beautiful collection though. Can you imagine if someone owned ALL of those Skjolds? I guess that's what it's like to be Tom Bowlus! ;)

7 pounds, 15 3/4 ounces. Six strings. Amazing.

Yes, I just received it. Pete, thanks a million, what an excellent instrument.

Pics and everything to come. No shows this weekend, but I'll be taking it out for a benefit we are playing for the Monarch ski team next weekend, so that will be the maiden voyage.

Awesome! Dang, man, you have an ACCURATE scale!! :)

Wait, don't tell me, I know... "it amazes you every time you pick it up how light it is... especially after hearing the tone when you play it", right? Tom said mine felt like it was filled with helium (but sure as heck didn't sound like it). :D :D

So how's the fret level on yours? Perfect to the point you can have the string height anywhere you'd want it? That's my guess... :)

Kitchen scale. I did my best to balance it...

That seems about right. The neck was flat and the action low when I got it, just like I asked for...and it was still in tune, by the way.

Killer. By the way, regarding your tagline, "aliens ate my buick" is one of my all time favorite albums. :)
