Also, can somebody explain to me the point of the offset body? I'm assuming it has to do with balance?

I really hope you will like the bass , as far as it blowing you outta the water ... it might And then again you might just find it an ample alternative that meets more of your needs . Roscoes are great basses a distinct tone . I have liked what I have heard from the Roscoes with the Nordstrands in them .

The offset was designed for five , six and seven string basses . It allows a greater amount of room down by the lower horn and body for better access to the frets . It also moves the controls away from the front pickup which can hamper slapping if you are used to playing farther back . It does also help with balance on the six and seven string basses .

18mm... perfect balance between most desired fingerstyle (17mm) and slap (19mm) spacing.

Cool, thanks. I am very partial to the tighter string spacing for fingerstyle, but being that my Roscoe 6 string is spaced at just over 18mm, that should make this Skjold feel a little easier to play.

The A-style saddles are adjustable from 17mm to 19mm with 18mm being set as standard . Thanks for bringing that up . It is often stated so many places I was surprised too . I could have swore it was on there

One thing I've noticed about the A-style bridge however is that when you do go to adjust the string spacing, I feel it kind of yields an unnatural bend for the outside stings when going over the saddles. Because of this, I almost feel that this function of these bridges is unusable. I'm not really sure whether or not this really matters, but it makes me uneasy.

Also Pete, if I do decide this bass is for me, I may want to do a hardware swap. I've never been a fan of chrome hardware, except on classic fenders. Are the hipshot parts custom to your basses, or can I just get stock hipshot replacement stuff from anywhere? If they are custom to your basses, can I get a black bridge and tuners from you?

I think I need to make a call to Skjold and see about getting him to build me an incredible 6 string bass! I've been looking for a while. From all the great things I hear about Pete's basses.....looks like I need to go to his shop to play some!

Coming around to this, eh, Corey? I really do hope you get a chance to play a Skjold. Pete's instruments certainly offer a very worthy alternative in the high end custom bass market - and don't tell Pete, but his prices are just a tad too low!

Anyway, there was some crap given back and forth on it between friends (all in fun) about it not having the black hardware, and now you end up with it and right away you're bringing up its lack of black hardware. LOL!

Haha, well, chrome just looks cheap for some reason. Not all the time, and maybe my opinion will change when I have the bass in person, but in pictures it looks almost wrong....

Depending on the finish, I like both chrome and black... especially for their durability. It's gold I have a problem with... not because it can't look great on some stuff, but mainly because it just doesn't last, and when it really starts to wear, it looks horrible.

On your bass, to be honest, I do think black would look better, but I also think the chrome works pretty nicely. FWIW.

I use a totally custom bridge now , but the one you have on there now can be replaced with a standard A style or my custom A style too . When you get the bass , if you want to switch out the hardware , just contact me .
