Extremely magical. The most responsive bass I've ever played. It weighs less than 8lbs. It's very balanced on my shoulder (no neck-dive) and has the most comfortable neck with incredibly low action. Pete delivered it to me with with 5/64ths height on the low side and 4/64 on the treble side at the 12th fret but I've since lowered it a tad and it just plays amazingly well with no buzzing.

Pete's making me another with an ash body/padauk top and maple neck that I'm looking forward to greatly. I wish he'd get those !@#$ pictures updated. :D

It's here! It's here! The Anigre bass arrived this afternoon via UPS. Haven't had much of a chance to play on it, except to come to the conclusion that it's one of the most repsonsive, most versatile sounding basses that I've ever owned. I keep wanting to overshoot on the high frets, though. The 24th fret / end of the fingerboard is a lot easier to reach than I'm used to, and my sense of location is a bit off.

And they called to say that our fill-in gig for Saturday night made. Gonna get to play it out this week and next. Woo-hoo!

Very cool! I really hope I like it, as I have this weird love affair going on with my roscoe skb3006, but something about the tone just doesn't sit right with me....

I'm having the same problem with my LG-3005... can't bear to part with it right now tho 'cause it plays so incredibly well (Lull refretted it and it's friggin' perfect now), so I'm messing with preamps... just lacking a certain upper mid calarity/bite thing. BTW, the Skjolds have that goin' on big time... you won't have that problem with the Skjold. In fact, I'll predict something... you'll notice that you're running your amp at lower volume levels in heavy mixes 'cause the Skjold cuts through so well.

I have GOT to cut in here...as a Roscoe owner x2, and a Skjold fan and future owner.

Guys, if you're not liking the Roscoes, change the electronics before you sell 'em!! There's been a bunch of discussion on this topic. -- please forgive the broken record. I'm simply chiming in:)

I completely resonate with what you're saying about the current "stock" Roscoe tones -- I don't care for the Bart pickup/Bart preamp sound either. The Nordstrand pickups + Aguilar preamp sounds VERY LITTLE like the Bart pickup/preamp sound. It's like getting a different manufacture of bass. Really! Would I lie to you?;)
For the LG, I would at least swap the preamp. It makes a big difference but does not de-value the bass as an aftermarket modification.

FWIW, I anticipate my future Skjold to have about 10,000 more usable tones than the Roscoe, but I still love my Roscoes. Usable tones, great playability.

Perhaps there's some middle ground for both Roscoe and Skjold to co-exist in brotherhood. :smug:


Gabe - forgot to say....congrats! That is a sweet bass!! Looks delicious!

Thanks guys, I really look forward to getting it. Basso, I promise I will give my Roscoe all the best treatment before I decide whether or not to get rid of it. It just plays and looks so beautiful. If the Skjold doesn't work out for me, I will just sell it and buy new pickups and electronics for my roscoe.

I think that's fair. My I predict that the Skjold is going to blow you out of the water on tonal choices...and probably playability if it's still set up as when I played it.

You know what else Gabe? If you're more a 5-string player than a 6-string player and you can only keep one bass, you're about to enter "the no-brainer zone."

Wow, that is a pretty harsh prediction against the Roscoe! :D

I look forward to giving both basses a very thorough going over.

Already in process. Thing is, I've already gone through the Demeter on my LG, and while it did open up the high end nicely, it added an odd mid character I really didn't like... at least with a spanish cedar body anyway. So now I search again... maybe aggie, maybe sadowsky, maybe...

Yeah, you'll find you're correct, and this is EXACTLY what I'm also saying... problem is, at least at this point, mine plays so incredibly well, and I love the way it looks so much, but the tone is "ok", which is just driving me crazy.

If only it'd sound as good (for my tastes) as it looked and played... all it needs is a little more clarity and upper mid bite... sheesh... maybe I'm bumping up against the cedar vs ash body thing, and with limited pickup options, I may be screwed...

This is exactly what is going on with me. This echo's exactly how I feel about my Roscoe. Could I live with the tone? Probably, but I don't feel I need to settle just yet. That is what has brought me to Skjold.

Nice bass!!!!
I think I need to make a call to Skjold and see about getting him to build me an incredible 6 string bass! I've been looking for a while. From all the great things I hear about Pete's basses.....looks like I need to go to his shop to play some!
