+1... Vic's and G's are on par with the best basses on the planet (I've played them all). I'm still in a J Bass love fest, but I'm absolutely positive that I will own one of these down the road. I'm not that interested in the Lion's Pride thing, since my current J's are just amazing. I was also not very interested in that 'all or nothing' pickup switching pre with all those bells and whistles, but now that I realize Pete has a more standard pre available, I'm even more interested in the model that Vic has.

A+ tone, workmanship, weight, playability, etc., etc.

Man, if I didn't already have a mahogany-bodied 5-string Skjold, that bass wudda never left my house! :D I flat out love that bass. Congrats! :hyper:

Oh, and that Rob Allen ain't bad either. :cool:

Perhaps so when seated, but I find that when standing an using a strap, that small body and virtually no overhang past the bridge actually bring 1st position closer to your body (or more to the 'right').

I should note on this, that it gets even better soon... mine still has a passive blend, and an active one is on the way. My passive blend is a little better than most, due to a little support circuitry, but still, not a truly buffered blend, which is the best. The good news is, this preamp is modular, so when that "module" becomes available, it'll be trivial for me to swap this out. On that same note, I'll be upgrading this to a sweep mid at some point as well. Pete's got this preamp voiced PERFECTLY for a mid boost (around 400 on this bass), but I'm thinking I might like to cut some high mids every once in a while as well.

One thing I noticed is that the neck sits WAY to your left (even more than the MTD's) due to the very small body. I actually kind of like that, but I would think that would be disliked by many.

I should note here this is true mostly for the sitting position, which is accentuated by that lower horn being extra far "back" for the extended deep cutaway for upper fret access (a "freedom" on this design I LOVE)... this is the "offset" in the "offset '92" body style. However, the upper horn is very long on these basses, so when I'm standing and playing on a strap, while I still notice a little nut extension compared to some other basses (especially 34" scale models like the Sadowsky and my Zons), it's really not much at all. However, sitting, you do notice it more, but it's still not really much of a problem at least for me.

...almost as lightweight as my stupid lightweight Sadowsky Modern,...

Actually, according to my digital postal scale, the Skjold was .3 pounds LIGHTER than the Sadowsky (weighing both on the same scale). :p :D

I did not try it with a strap, so the long horn probably brings it in... and actually, now I remember that from playing G's.

Sitting... the neck is quite a bit extended though... no big deal though.

Maybe its the offset body that makes it that way while sitting. Before I left for the office this morning I sat down with my Standard body for a bit and it didn't feel any different to me. Of course I don't have anything around the house to directly compare it too right now, seeing as the Mouse definitely has no reach issues. :smug:

+1 Vic confirmed that this is an 'offset' body issue when sitting. Again, it's no big deal, but some players really have an issue with that, so I thought I'd mention it.

By the way.... I just placed an order for a bass with Pete:D

It will be very similar to Vic's:

Offset body
Light ash body with matching heel plate
Black hardware
Standard knobs and pickup covers
Birdseye maple neck with headstock overlay
Bubinga top
Standard three band pre.

Cool.... 8 months to go:hyper:

Thanks. I've 'almost' put an order in with Pete a number of times over the previous couple of years, but G and Vic's basses put me over the top.

I actually cancelled the Sadowsky order I had recently put in and replaced it with the Skjold (I have two beautiful Sadowsky's at the moment... that should take care of the Sadowsky jones!).

Interestingly, even with Pete's price increase, this bass with fancy top, birdseye board, etc., etc. comes in about $500 less than the basic NYC MV5 without a fancy top. That's not an indication that the Sadowsky's are overpriced, but that Pete's offerings (along with Stambaugh's) are still the best deal on the planet for a boutique instrument.

Cool, will the bubinga top be similar to what is on G's bass? Pete has some really killer wood right now. He was showing me some Bubinga fretboard wood and some of the nicest Walnut tops I have ever seen yesterday. The Walnut flame was so strong you didn't even need to put Naptha on it to see enhance the figuring. I can't imagine what it will look like when finished.

Nice! That bubinga top should look very interesting. And as much as it's fun to play with wood knobs and covers, there is something to be said for black. :cool:

I agree, it is amazing how much bass Pete gives you for the money. :)

Wow! I didn't know this. Not too surprised all things considered, however. It's kinda' like an addiction, isn't it, Ken? I hate to break this to you, but given resources, it's pretty much impossible to stop at just one Skjold. :D

Pete's offerings (along with Stambaugh's) are still the best deal on the planet for a boutique instrument.

Couldn't have said it any better. However, this will all change when the market becomes more aware of his stuff and will support more "appropriate" pricing. I don't plan on selling mine, but it does make them a particularly good investment if you can afford to keep them long enough to enjoy this.

I predict that '07 will be a huge year for Pete in particular. Huge.
