Very kind of you :) The SSII is a tone monster... a set of fresh steels and a bit of bass boost and BOOM!!! Delicious :)

Night and day. The Thumb, to my ear, has a compressed sound to it, is very focused through the mid-mids with a churning, raspy low end and a controlled high-end. The SSII, OTOH, has a broad tone, a low end that can really roar if you dial it up, low mids that growl like the dickens, and a clarity that really gives it presence in a mix. The Thumb cuts through like a knife and is omni-present, while the Streamer is still audible, but sits a bit further back and provides a wider, bigger bass cushion.

Very interesting. To the eye they look too similar to be that different. Same pickup types, same construction, similar materials, etc. Would you contribute the differences to the electronics or woods? I have the Streamer Stage 1 fiver with soapbars that I can't wait to get out live soon.

Part of it may be the mods that have been done to the Thumb (Barden pups, Audere pre), but besides the obvious pickup placement the Thumb is solid bubinga with an ebony fretboard and ovangkol neck with ekanga veneers and the Streamer is afzelia with a wenge fretboard and and ovangkol neck with afzelia "stripes" (whatever that means). Even without the mods, a Thumb and Streamer will have completely different tones, so I would say that the woods definitely have something to do with it too.

The Thumb sounds great, but I think that the Streamer strung with some fresh stainless strings is the closest I've ever been to "The Tone in My Head".

I like them. Thick, a touch dark, but very responsive to technique and EQ. Look sexy too :)

I only noticed what this means recently after seeing the new Korean models. Take a look at the back of the Thumb BO neck (MIK, not the German):

These Series have maple neck with "ekanga veneer stripes".

On the SSII the stripe is the same from the body. You can see right in the middle of the neck (and the body, of course):

Thank you for the great information and for the kind words :) Unfortunately I do not have any live videos worth sharing :( We do have a music video on our website, but it's not live playing. We were working on that, but our singer got shipped to Washington D.C. Maybe in the future.

I'm not affiliated with the seller & don't know if I'm going against the rules, sorry, but if someone has GAS for a Thumb 5 B.O. fretless in this neck of the woods....this one looks nice, although I don't like the lacquer or the in-lays, someone might...

Guys, love this thread!

I have been looking at a Corvette bolt on in a natural untreated finish with active MEC type PU's.
Love the string spacing and how it plays but found the neck was a bit heavy, wanted to dive unless I held it up.

Do you guys find that and if so how do you get around it?
