Please describe the sound of your new double buck when you get a chance, I am very seriously considering gettting a short scale $$ in a month or two.
-thanks

I have a 5 string $$ Corvette. Love it. It's very responsive and there are so many toning options. At first I struggled with the setting. Those big a$$ humbuckers are really sensitive. So every little precussive click gets picked up. Great for funk. Not great for dub. Learned how to dial it out and now I'm stoked. The low end sound on this guitar is ridiculously cool. So growly and warm. I tripped on not having a mid knob, but I just adjusted that through my amp. You've got lots of toning options right on your guitar that can cut you through the mix in a flash. Slapping and popping sounds really nice doesn't distort when you hit your thumb a little hard. I've tripped my drummer out with this. All and all, I'm adjusting, and it is an adjustment, but it's an adjustment for the better. I'm really happy with the purchase, the quality of the instrument, and the overall sound of it. :D

I'm so impatient for mine to arrive! $$ 5 string Burgundy Red. In my opinion, this is the best warwick produced recently, and it's gonna be a true Warwick classic, if not already.

As for your dub sound, you tried flatwounds? They should be less agressive. And also playing nearer the bridge. My Thumb as the same 'problem', bu I can compensate playing closer to the bridge, where the amplitude is less, and it gets less clanky.

BTW, I'll be posting soundclips as soon as I can. Will probably take me all weekend though :) Hell, there is so many tonal options on that thing, I'll probably spend a year finding the right sounds.

I also considered having it custom made, with a 3 band EQ, and a couple more options. But then, nah...

Ooh - that would have to be a custom shop job, wouldn't it?

I'd be happy to describe the sound with the caveat that I haven't played it with my full band yet. I've used it for a jazz combo rehearsal, but that was after having it for about two hours and not really knowing what tones I wanted to dial in.

Having said that, I can say that the tone is, to put it simply, everything that I was personally looking for. It's very hi-fi and articulate, which could be a bad thing or a good thing. It's hard to hide your technique flaws with this bass! The high end is very "zingy", and I found myself rolling off the treble control until my strings broke in a little bit. (I did not like the stock Black Label strings at all. I swapped them out for light gauge DR Hi-Beams and am much happier.)

What impresses me the most is the bass. The low end, for lack of a better term, is very tight. When I use my P-Bass or any of my old J-Basses, boosting the lows (either on the amp or the bass) would often make it sound very booming and uneven. With the Corvette I find that the low end stays focused and controllable while letting the rest of the instrument's range stay audible. It's hard to describe! I'm eagerly awaiting my first opportunity to play it with my band, a seven-piece outfit complete with horns, keys, guitar, etc. It should be no problem to cut through with this bass!

Standard i believe, but was hand picked of best wood grain/cut. Its my birthday in a couple days and i had to buy me something nice for myself...and i said...why not another warwick! The best present you could get would be from yourself...cause you know what you want...;) I'll post pics of both thumb and vette together later on today. Thanks for comments!
