Curiosity and opportunity. I don't get many, well any, chances to do a hands-on comparison with another 'Buzz owner. He just got his and wanted to compare and do a setup.
I can believe the 1/8th inch difference you mention. Ours felt about like that, with a similar difference in weight.

By the way, if you play those two unplugged can you hear a difference in the sound that comes off the bass?

It's pronounced between the two I tried. The thinner, lighter JJ has a more bright tone and it seems a bit louder unplugged. It translates to the amplified sound. So coupled with the different pickups, the two are pretty distinct. I can't help wondering if the thinner body was a conscious choice by Michael to emphasize the sound of the Js.

That might be tricky to ascertain in my case. One bass is strung with round wounds, the other with flats.

That does complicate things :)

In our case both basses were strung with nicely broken in D'Addarios.

Would any of you buy used Pedulla strings?
I've wound up with 4 sets of 5-strings. Two older sets from another guy's bass. I don't play them.

One unopened from 2018
One set just broken in from that year.
One older set, uncertain year but still lively.
One I suspect from 2006.

There’s an MVP 6 on Reverb that’s in Italy that looks nice.
I got mine from Italy as well. It was in well played but described well with lots of pics. Plays and sounds great though. It’s one of my favorites!

Nevermind, I found it.

There’s an ebay seller who appears to selling Michael’s personal stash of Schaller bridges. He’s out of Massachusetts and says he’s selling “parts from a local manufacturer retiring. This bridge was used in this builder’s prototyping efforts in R&D or stock, so never previously sold or installed."

He has two left. Search for “ABM Schaller 5 String A Style Bass Bridge, Brass, Gold, 19mm spacing.”

Hey, all. I have a neck dimension question:

Are the neck dimensions the same on both 17mm & 19mm bridge spacing Pentabuzz basses? Or is the neck narrower on the 17mm bridge spacing basses? Trying to see if I can do a 19mm bridge swap on a factory 17mm spacing without the strings rolling off the edge. Thank you!

I know most folks with a Pedulla Fretless probably have the poly coated neck that gives Pedulla's the best mwah out there, but the Pedulla that I bought new ~30 years ago - a 1994 Pedulla Thunderbuzz ET 6 string (w/Zebrawood top) - has a natural finish on the body and on the Ebony fretless neck, which gives it a much more woody upright tone then a mwahey tone...

In the instructions for the bass it says to put a few coats of Tung Oil on the fretboard every so often, and since the fretboard was getting a little chewed up I figured it was a good time to refinish the neck - I also hoped that the process would make the fretboard harder and result in less wood and more mwah.

I blue-taped the pickups, sanded teh neck with 150 & 250 grit until most of the string marks were done, then started a daily process of sanding the neck with #0000 steel wool, cleaning, putting a coat of Tung Oil on & leaving it for ~25 min, then wiping off and let dry... I did this about 12 times and ended up with

The result was a much harder fretboard, and once I strung it up and played it I def noticed a difference in tone - less wood, more mid rangey mwah, and felt incredible to play. The tonal difference wasn't massive and didn't turn the bass into a MVP, but it really improved the feeling and sound of the bass. (I have the John East filter-based preamp so i can use it to tune in the mwah-frequencies as well). Doing it a dozen times might have been excessive - most articles I read said to do 3-4 coats of Tung Oil, but the neck almost feels like glass now so it might've been worth it.

Missing, stolen or fraud sale: On September 1, 2023, I bought MVP-5 #2937 on eBay. It was listed for sale in Burlington, VT. Suspiciously, something was shipped from Seoul, South Korea to my address in Massachusetts. It tracked into Newark, NJ on September 19, then stopped. USPS is unable to find it with the Korean tracking number.

If it never arrives, it is covered by eBay insurance, but I'd rather have the bass. If anyone sees the instrument, please let me know. USPS will conduct an investigation and determine if it is rightfully mine, or a fraud sale. For a while now, I am thinking the latter. Thank you!!

I'm sorry to hear this Bro. I remember seeing the listing and sending them a query. They responded promptly and included a video to confirm their answer. And they had other guitars listed on their site. So they seemed legit but it's hard to tell. With luck this is some kind of a snafu and your bass is in Norway or something and will turn up no worse for touring. Good luck.
