can anyone tell me what the exact string spacing at the bridge is on the 5L? when i measure it, it looks like 19mm, but everything i've heard or read says 17.5mm. could i me measuring it wrong? it feels wider than my spector

I decided to try an experiment, so I strung my BH5 last night from E to C (bought a six-string pack instead of a five-string pack just out of curiosity). In some ways, the tonal profile of the BH5 works better strung E to C than B to G (perhaps because the pickups are so close to the bridge, like the way the pickups are slanted putting the G string closer to the bridge on a 5L).
Still, it's a little weird -- I'm not used to having that high end to fiddle around with -- makes me feel a little less like a bass player.

I found thru stinging a 4 string BEAD that I can't do without the G string.
(go ahead, it's a lob)
However, I got no need to tread that deeply into geetar territory.

I know what you mean....I have a little Samick Mini-corsair (with one of the Reverend 7.5K pickups installed) strung up A-D-G-C. That's pretty bizarre, too. There's something just 'not right' about it! But....kinda fun, though.

I won't go so far as to say "I only play in the money positions," but I pick and choose when I play over 12 pretty carefully.
Conversely, or similarly?, I choose pretty carefully when I go below E as well.
I personally find over-used pedal tones annoying.

Question for those of you that use non-standard EADG tunings (or BEADG).... how difficult is it to get used to the change? and is it hard to switch between diiferent axes with different tunings?
I'm a beginner... I suppose after many years of playing the different tunings are not really that difficult to get used to???

Assuming you're still tuning in 4ths, and playing in closed positions, nothing changes except where your starting point on the neck is.
Exactly. I've been playing in DGCF tuning almost exclusively for six years, and the only difference is a huge one.. two extra low notes! I've gotten so used to having that open low D (the fretted low E is pretty cool, too) that when I play a standard-tuned bass, it sounds and feels a little weird. There's a distinct feeling of hitting a wall when I reach that open low E and realize "that's it."
OK - so How far would I have to bend over for a Houser, along with a 4 banger 'fish - y'all know the one ... (I'm like you know infatuated but only interested in North American, preferrably US deals...)
So I take it you're liking my BH5???
It took me a while to find it (including several months of having "I want a Lava Swirl Reverend BH5" under my user name -- which led to a few leads), and there are even more folks looking for them now than when I was 'fishing for it, most likely.
For the record, I paid $1K for that gem back in January, and consider it worth every penny though I probably paid a premium for the kickin' Lava Swirl top. Dunno what the market is these days since they come up for sale so infrequently.
You're welcome to keep mine for a few weeks though.
Bongos are cool, but not as cool as a BH5, imo.
Don't know what it was like B to G, but E to C it rocks... The string spacing just works for me. It's big I'll grant but other 5's I've played leave me feeling kinda cramped up ... I'll have to measure it up and see what the heck it really is -

BH5's are kickin, and I admire Bartmans specifically.
For the top, yeah, but for the added brightness more. Stock they just don't have the top end sheen a 5L has.

Bart's could have the look of badly tagged brick and I wouldn't care - It freakin' plays like - god - don't say it -must not type it ... aaiiiieee (sound of sherpa being thrown to the gods...) butta ....
that nos bugeye chrome jj 4 on ebay is haunting me, but at $1200, I can't justify pulling the trigger--that's the damn thing about buying 'fish back when they were $400--it spoils you for life!

That NOS bugeye is pretty cool. Is there such a thing as TOO shiny? Might have a tough time keeping the raccoons away from it.
