First practice with the Houser tonight. Nice! Holy thumpage! Lots to get used to, but there's a lot of tones hiding in there. Oh, but the Rotosounds are definitely not a winner there. Not made for 35" scale. The D doesn't really work too well. I'm thinking TI Jazz rounds might work nicely, though.

The Rev pick up is installed & sounds great. Thanks again.
Turns out the Mystery Pick-up is a Bill Lawrence P - 46. Definitely
an after market, as the solder job was not Reverends work.
After reading some info, He makes them like this for an even spread
across 4 string, & 5 string P basses. Sorta like a blade style. I've requested instructions from Bill's website. I'm looking to wire it up with a series switch.
Just thought you'd like to know.

damn right - but I love to play a hofner 500/1 from time to time and the difference (in every kind of way) to the BH5 is h-u-g-e

I also have to say... my BH5 remains my favorite bass to play live and record with.

Still wrestling with best option to get some more mids out of it... External PreAmp, John East P-Retro, etc... just can't decide.

Haven't pulled the trigger on an outboard yet. My problem with the sadowsky (even thought I love it's character and tone) is that there's no bass/treble cut to get more mids, or mid control to boost mids, which is what I keep finding i'm after with this specific bass.

I've been bumping mids on my head (RH450) and thats fine, but i've got this fetish for liking to get the tone I want directly off the basses, or prior to the amp for times when I may be going direct or not using my specific rig here in Nashvegas.

what about the yamaha ne-1? should give you some more access to some quick'n'dirty mid mods. i personally think that a good amp with a good eq-ing does the same job, but for venues i use to play over some provided equipment I have a ne-1 in my 'mac gyver'- bag
