So I finally decide to try some chromes. I buy them, take them out of the package, and they're TOO SHORT!!! Here I thought they were medium gauge, and they were medium scale. I never heard of medium scale before! And the store won't exchange because the packaging was opened. grrrrrrr

Same thing happened to me. I ordered a long scale set for my 5L and they were too short. I thought I was screwed, especially at $44.00 for a 5-string set. BUT big props to Long & Mcquade (largest MI chain in Canada), who took them back on exchange (even though I opened them) and ordered me up a set of Super Long Chromes. I hope to put them on this weekend and try 'em out.

I have one P pup, it's the stock 8.7 kohm, I think.
I also have a set of white 4 banger JJ pup covers.

...... ordered me up a set of Super Long Chromes. I hope to put them on this weekend and try 'em out.

So, I put the D'Addario Chrome flats on my 5L this weekend and I must say that I'm pleased. Nice finish on the Chromes, not super sexy slick like the Fender flats but a lot smoother than TI Jazz flats (only two brands I've owned and tried). They tuned up quickly and stayed that way. Seems to me they are well built. Some new strings continue to stretch alot after installation and need repeated retuning for days, not these. Bass is still in tune since Sunday.

Good solid tension on the strings, the B is not floppy like it was with the D'Addario rounds. Solid fundamental notes with decent sustain for being flats. Makes the 5L sound present and distinct. I like 'em. I can see why they've been recommended for the Reverends. Somehow there is a "rightness" to the sound.

Ahh, so close! Believe it or not the box said .132" for the B-string. Box said "Light Gauge". The sizes were: .045 / .065 / .080 /100 / .132. The gauges for the A and E might make you think "light gauge" but to me they feel like mediums. Nowhere as stiff as the Fender mediums.
