I bought the Sentinel last March after having considered a short scale for some time. I was just curious what a SS would feel and sound like. Originally I was looking at the JMJ Mustang but found after buying the Mercalli and then the Decision, that I have pretty much moved on from the 'Fender tone'. The American Std Jazz in my photo hasn't been played in anger in about two years and I can see me moving it on.

I first learned of the Sentinel from one of Ken's FB Live videos. I liked the idea of the three-way switch and the body shape appealed to me over the likes of the Wattplower or the Dub King.

In a nutshell, the Sentinel has exceeded my expectations.

It is light, at around 7lbs and is an absolute joy to play. At 5'9, I find the body size and balance is perfect for me. There is no neck dive and ergonomically, comfortable to play with the string spacing, forearm contour & belly cut. Fit and finish are excellent as we have come to expect from Reverend. It doesn't feel, play or sound like a toy, which are some of the criticisms I have seen that are often leveled at Reverend guitars.

The pickups are surprisingly versatile and LOUD!

This has been my #1 since I got it.

Can it do the P bass tone? That is a matter of some debate. Personally, having owned several P basses over the years and sold them all, I don't really care for the P bass + flats (and tort!) paradigm. To me the Sentinel will give you a full sounding, functional and lively tone. To me, it doesn't have that baked in P bass tone and to be honest, I haven't missed it or really gone looking. When I'm gigging and whether we are doing a rock set or a wedding set, I always set my rig up so that my tone is big, beefy and has bite. If that is what you are after the Sentinel will deliver!

and it helps a lot indeed.

You and I have a lot in common taste-wise (and size-wise LOL), me too don't really care about the Fender P bass and blah blah blah...
My main P bass is the Musicman Cutlass.

But the more I play my Maruszczyk Elwood 4p short scale, the more I think I need a Short Scale P bass.
So, I was about to go the G&L/Sterling route (the Fallout or the Short scale one) but I much prefer the Reverend one.

My main concern was about the body shape which look a bit bigger (rounder maybe?) at the lower bout than the Decision/Justice/Mercalli.
Yeah, the dub King was nice and great sounding but a bit awkward ergonomically.

As for the sound I love the P blade they also have on the Decision.

No problem at all raphaeld. Glad to be able to help.

The Sentinel is very comfortable to play and the lower horn/cutaway isn't an issue. I don't know if there is that much difference with the standard body shape.

yeah they're about the same.
In their site, it looked like the Sentinel was a bit bigger.
Now I need to chase one up. :hyper:
and I also wish they made one color with the roasted maple FB, but I think I'll get the black one. looks killer

Looks like it and one of their best colours imo.

Can anyone tell me who has played both a Dub King and Mercalli, does the DK have a similar tone to the Merc? I know they have the same pickups but with different spacing and the DK is a semi hollow body.

Almost ready to pull the trigger on a new Mercalli - the only thing holding me back is the nut width. It's a little wider than I'm used to, and there are none local that I can try.

Any comments on that? Thanks! (I'm still wading through the hundreds of pages of the Reverend Club!)

I think they are all 42mm wide at the nut.
This is actually one thing I love about those basses (amongst other things of course).
Neck is super comfy, and slick but def. wider than a reg. F!!#$#$r Jazz bass ;)
