I've been playing and doing my own setups for over 20 yrs and I recently noticed something about strings and wood. I feel like a noob but here goes...
I sold an SRT800DX from last year because it didn't sound right. It was a nice arched NT, but the pups were EMG's..
I had a few SR505's, (Mahogany/BO). The latest one sounded too dark with DR strings. Tried others and it sounded BEST with Dean Markley Helix ss. Sold em anyway.
My new SR605 was BEST with the Elixirs it came with. Awesome bass but I didn't like the fretwork. Yes, I should've just paid my tech to give it a dressing. I just sold it for a loss! UGH!!
Now, on my 'new-to-me' NT SR905, I decided to trade it for a BO thinking that was the problem. I tried all those strings and more. This afternoon I was going through a drawer and found the same DR Low-Riders that I used on my 505. To my amazement, they sounded PERFECT on the Maple NT SR905.
Go figure. It has the tone I love, finally!
I'm quite happy now and I should really get OFF of this GAS carousel.

I've decided not to try and trade the 905. She really is a keeper. It's been played, broken-in well, some worming, but I like that! Ibanez is a really good investment!
Try other strings if you're not happy with your tone but love the guitar. Cut em long so you can resell or use elsewhere. GL all!

Excellent advice xHawk5. Sometimes you find things that you weren't expecting. I bought a 700 and it's my favorite in terms of how it feels in my hands but have never found a use for it - just sounded really modern and clean and sustained too long for pop/soul/funk to my tastes. I went through a lot of strings and different pickup settings and even pickups and just always decided I liked other basses better. One day I put flats on it and suddenly it has a usable voice. I don't play flats very much but when I do, it's my go-to bass for that sound.
Sometimes, being stuck with an instrument because you can't afford to take the loss if you sold it makes you try options you wouldn't otherwise try.

That's almost exactly where i was with my 695...
Once i put the Chromes on, it really came alive for me, like the best P-bass you've ever heard, but on steroids.

Here is the serial number, if anyone could date it?
There is one thing I just don't understand... The serial number only has 6 numbers, while the Korean made basses have 7 or 8.
Let's say you have something like this : C5030567 - translates, 5 = 1995, 03 = 3rd month [March], 0567 = 567th guitar built in March 1995.
An 8 digit number example - C03114373 - translates, 03 = 2003, 11 = 11th month [November], 4373 = 4373rd guitar built in November 2003.
HOWEVER!! Ibanez guitars and basses build before 1987 did had 6 numbers.. But this was only for the Japanese (bass) guitars.
A would be January, B would be February, C would be March, etc. etc. etc. But...You still face the problem with the numbers.
Your bass has serial number C444001. So the first 4 would mean 1994, but the rest is unreal.. There is no 44th month.. Weird..

$ 1,371.79 ? Are you kidding me? Seriously? Well you have been trolled for life.. That is the MSRP when that bass came out... Well.. not your bass. Other SR 1200's en 1205's...
Even today the price wouldn't be more then $500...
Watch out before you buy this bass! Look at the back of the headstock : The serial number is stamped on a sticker and put on the back of the headstock. Ibanez has put the serial number for the most directly on the back of the headstock. And, it should have been between does white lines you see...

The body is a 3 piece btw...no, it isn't as visible normally, the flash accentuated it.
Maybe when they rolled the serial number printer from March to April they goofed and went from 03 to 44?

The stickers are used when the factory refurbishes an instrument. It would I've been sold as b stock or refurbished. Usually you'll see a stamp somewhere in the wood that says used.
