But the weight of the $$$ and the pounds ( for my old shoulders) cinched it- not for me.
My SR 500PB weighs like 6lbs.

I think it's around 7lb...not a big difference.

Anyone else wishing for Ibanez to come out with some pastel colors like sea foam green, light pink, and baby blue?

I'd never thought of this, but sounds like a great idea!!! As progressive as Ibanez is in some areas, they are very conservative when it comes to colors. Another vote for sea foam green!!!

So I was at a GC this weekend and saw a NECK THROUGH SR500...has anyone seen these? Haven't seen them advertised as such and model # was still the same but price was $699.

Some of the really early ones might have been. Did you check the back. Not long ago I remember Ibanez painting some bodies to look neck though but were actual just bolt on.

Yes, checked the back (the obvious thing to do), it was clearly a neck through. Also, it was brand new and featured the Mid toggle switch they changed over to in 2010, so it wasn't an old model. Looked around on their site and see nothing about this. Strange.

As for the pastel colors, think they've done this with their GSR models - but that's likely to cover up the cheap wood (Agathis/Basswood are very plain grain woods, not attractive at all).

I also wonder if they don't paint their other models to keep the prices low, after all the SR500 & SR600 are great bargains and I can see offering them in solid colors bringing the prices up a bit. Same with their Premiums.

Plus, the look of wood is much nicer, classier, IMO. I prefer it anyway. But yes, would be nice if they offered one or two other colors but you know they'd just offer boring old black poly and something like CANDY RED or BLUE which they offered the SR300 in a while back.

I just wish their finishes were more consistent. I've seen some really lovely SR600s in the darker wood and also some pretty plain and pale looking ones with poor grain. Same with the SR500 - every once in a while I see a nice deep brown one, otherwise a lot of them are really reddish which doesn't look that great. That's why Sweetwater is such a great site, you can see exactly which model you are buying in their Guitar Galleries.

It's a Guitar Center exclusive. Black, neck through SR500. I saw a four-string version awhile ago at my local GC, but can only find the five-string version online.

I've seen some really lovely SR600s in the darker wood and also some pretty plain and pale looking ones with poor grain. Same with the SR500 - every once in a while I see a nice deep brown one, otherwise a lot of them are really reddish which doesn't look that great. That's why Sweetwater is such a great site, you can see exactly which model you are buying in their Guitar Galleries.

That's why I went with the SR600 in walnut flat stain, and I also got it from Sweetwater ... great company with some really nice pics of the actual basses for sale.

Intereting to hear about the thru neck SR500..on the BTB forum there was a pic of thru neck fretless..so maybe thats the ''New'' for Ibanez SRs next yr..thru necks

I looked them up at the Ibanez Japan website, and didn't even see the SR705.

Oh, I don't know... some of the "plain and pale looking ones" are pretty nice, IMO.
