That's my take on it as well. Amp settings have a lot to do with whether it's metal tone or jazzy. It just sounds like a bass with a lot of range to me.
But if I hear enough "metal comments", I will take advantage of GCs 45 day no questions return policy. ;-)

I didn't mean to imply metal/rock was all it did. Those forehead knuckle-punch mids are easily tamed with the bass and amp eq. Look at what Carol Kaye did with one for several years. Can be very versatile.

Well...I've returned the SRX already. It plays great and sounds great, but the thing ia just too freakin heavy. My shoulders and neck are pretty beat up and I just cannot stand to have that bass on my shoulder for longer than 15 minutes.
Having a used SR505 shipped. Ought to have it next week sometime.

Wow!, it would have been a quick return for me as well. I had a BTB300 with the same pickups, but a better preamp & it sounded fantastic, but at 9-3/4 lbs, I just could not play it for more than 30 minutes.
I guess I got lucky when I bought a SRX700 that was only 9 lbs., but I still returned it. The ceramic PFRs in my SRX2 sound better to me.

Need your advice peeps,
Sold my SR1305 on reverb over the weekend for the price I asked for: $960 inc. shipping, but was playing it last night and I'm getting cold feet. Should I sell? I'd be taking a -small- loss. I don't need the money, but it's not getting played much either. Love the comfort and looks of the bass even better than its btb brother, but I already have 6 basses and don't want to be a hoarder.
Waaahh. Help me decide? (Probably wrong thread to ask :))

If you committed to selling it then it is sold. No decision to make IMO.

It isn't your bass anymore. Hurry up getting that bass professionally packed and shipped out. It's new rightful owner is waiting.

So, I returned the SRX and ordered this one off their site.
NBD! Well...actually used bass day again.
2012 SR505. A few nicks and dings, but overall pretty good. I think the volume pot is miswired. Turning the volume pot down, it gets quieter until halfway then increases volume again until you hit stop. I suspect that previous owner had a wire come loose from a lug, then soldered it to incorrect lug and just gave up.
I'll take a closer look at it on my day off.
I have to see if I can get accustomed to the tight string spacing. Not as tight as my guitar but a lot closer spacing than a normal bass. Works well for using a flat pick, but just weird with fingers and thumb.

I think it will make a decent workhorse though.

Edit: I've found the wiring diagram, and nothing looks odd. Preamp must be messed up.
Not sure I want to dump more money in since I just picked it up. Well, good thing for GC 45 day returns.

Here's my new 2007 SR905FM-TKF. I found it online, in unused mint condition and it turned out to be a monster. No problems except it became a bit muddy at the last rehearsal setup. Then I connected it to a Sansamp DI and everybody loved the sound.
