My kingdom and half the turnip output, for a year, for this 'mod' on my SR805... was practicing with it, tonight, (low volume, Fender Bronco 40) and I really like this bass! It would be nice with a passive option, though.
Still trying to incorporate the 'B' in on appropriate songs on our list, while keeping it in check, on the ones which don't need it.

My 605 too. It's the only thing I wish was different about it. They started the passives switches a little while after I bought mine. They then cancelled my model, and turned it into a PJ (650 series). But, what I just learned is that my Bart Mk1s are actually split coils. So, in a sense, I have a stock Ibanez double P. Kinda cool. Seeing as how they haven't made another one of these since 2015 or something. But anyway, yes for real on the passive switch.

That fence looks like the one from my childhood home. Grey aged wood with rust streaking from the nails.
update on this...
Took the battery out of my BTB7 (mini switch at downward/active position), plug the bass to a combo amp, switched the amp on and set the volume at 9 o'clock, turn the bass master vol knob at full and played the bass = no sound. Flicked the mini switch up (passive) and played the bass = sound heard from the combo amp.
Haven't tried with the SRFF806 yet, but pretty convinced that it can also be used with no battery when passive switch engaged.
I remember the SRX in the Ibanez catalogue. At the time, the Ibanez catalogues were all about nu metal artists! The SRX was no one trick pony though. Those big open pole pieces gave it a bit of a G&L vibe to look at.
I have only played one, a four string at the (sadly defunct) Howard's Bass Place in Newcastle. It was years ago but I remember being very impressed with the tight, punchy tone and smooth neck..
I agree, India_Sierra. There are, of course, many Prestiges out there with more exotic woods and Nordstrand pickups, but I only gave 5 clams for her with a case, so I feel like I stole her.
She was made in Japan somewhere between 2001 and 2005 (don't know how to tell from the serial number) and is in pretty good shape for as old as she is, given how soft the wood is and how fragile the finish is. Her neck is straight with no buzzing anywhere. I wish I could lower the action just a bit for my style, but the saddles on this model have no height adjustment (once you're at the bottom). I suppose I could put a spacer under the neck in the pocket, but I don't really want to mess with it. She plays like butter as is. I'm glad it doesn't have the gold hardware. Some like that color, but it looks gaudy to me. But I do love the simplicity of it, sort of an understated elegance that never goes out of style.Attachments
i couldn't find out how to decode the year of manufacture with that serial number system but because yours has the sfr-s pickups I know it's either 1999,2000 or 2001. they came with bartolinis in 2002-2004.
I have the 605 - swamp ash body, jatoba/bubinga neck, Nordstrands, passive switch with passive tone and black hardware. A great player, great tone. A very nice bass all 'round.

No I don't. The best I could do would be a pic if that would help. It's night over here and probably couldn't get enough light but I could whip the cover off in the morning if it'll help.

Yes, your quite right. I just realised that before I read your reply. When I was perusing the market I was tossing up between the 605 and the 655. In Australia for some weird reason, you cannot get the 655 in a natural finish, only the "antique" finish which I'm not fond of. Eventually I got the 655 but it seems that somehow the 605 has lodged itself into my somewhat road-worn brain - too many brain cells gone the way of time I'm afraid and mind altering substances in my younger days......
I've got a pair of Soundgears. I may add a 3rd, as I'm considering adding a 5-string to the stable.

Been considering a 4th Ibby lately. Something different than what I already have. Currently, I own an SR505, SR506, and an SR300DX (I think?). All are wearing flats, which I love. I'm thinking something different this go round. Definitely needs to be a 5 string. Maybe rounds, a bit more attack, but still meaty? ATK? They seem to be great, and I have always liked the Stingray sound.
What do you guys think? I play predominantly heavy metal of all sorts, but like all sorts of classic rock too. My budget is maybe $30pish or so, planning on going used. Thanks!
