Now I know for certain I want a good camera just to take pictures of my bass.

I bought a new/old stock 505 yesterday that had been sitting in a local store for a while. I'll post pics in a day or two.
Couple questions for you SR experts:
When did Ibanez move SR production to China? Everything I've read in this thread (and elsewhere) indicates Korea or Indonesia.
What does the "BB" mean in the model number? (SRA505BB)
Was 2010 the only year that the 505 came with EMG HZ pickups? First time I've ever seen one with them.
Why does Ibanez use a little gummed sticker for the serial number on the headstock? Sure would make it difficult to recover a stolen instrument.
I'll let you know what I think of the sound after tomorrow night's band practice.

wcriley - The SRA and the SR are two entirely different models. The SR505 has Barts, the SRA has EMGs. the BB is color code for Blackberry. so without seeing pics, I'm guessing you're bass has a quilted maple top and is a reddish color. and Yes, the SRA line is made in China, not Indonesia. Korea doesn't make guitars or basses anymore, they stopped after 2008, I believe.

"A" refers to "arched top". Nearly all Ibanez instruments are active.
+1. The SRAs are closer the the SRXs then the SRs.
And Blackberry is reddish, there are countless colors that ibanez makes that are red. I'm sure in the right lighting it'll be a purplish red.
KR: Yep. Just logged back in to report that I'd found the info on the A=Arched.
Seems my research should have included more than just this thread.
DM: In any light I've had it under (so far) it's a very bright red...no purple at all.

BTW: This is the first non-used instrument I've bought since the early or mid 80s. And my very first red guitar.

I love my 1405e, but I'm thinking of sending it back to Sweetwater for a refund. I'm wanting the 1206 instead, or possibly a 5006. They sent it to me free shipping when I bought it, so I'll have to pay return shipping plus eat their shipping cost on the refund. Instead, I'm thinking of posting it here in the classifieds. I figure I'll lose the same money either way, but at least someone else can get it for cheaper than they could buy it new. It's only a couple weeks old.
But before I do, I need to be sure I'm making the right decision. The SR5006 is really growing on me. I've been checking out all the Youtube clips, and I really dig it. I spent time at Guitar Center this week with an SR506, which I had previously owned, and I like it also but of course it's no where near the quality of my 1405. I think the 5006 would be sweet, and it would have a better electronics package also.
At first, I thought the bass was too dark, but I've learned to love that on the Prestige. So I don't know. Do you guys think I should dump the 1405 and go for the 5006? I'm going to make up my mind in the next day or two.

You're the only one that can decide if it's worth going from 5 to 6 strings. Other than that... IMO unless money is no object, Premiums are the best bang for the buck - period. The price difference between the Premium and Prestige is significant. For me it would be pointless to go beyond the price/quality of a Premium - since these basses are better made than the older Prestige models...but I'm not you
I dig a lot the looks of the 500X Prestige basses, but unless I win the lottery, I don't see myself spending that much on a bass. But again, that's just me.
Anyway, what you could do is keep your Premium and start hunting for a cheap used Prestige. Some guys managed to get some really sweet basses dirt cheap.
If you decide to change, you'll probably do better returning the one you have. Unfortunately, used Ibanez basses don't go for very much and even if you put an enticing price on it, you still have to find a buyer. If you're still within the Sweetwater return window, there's no hassle, no wait.
I'm not worried about the move to 6 string. I've owned several including SR's in the past. I'm just more wondering if I want the 5006 over the 1206. I love the tone of the 1405, but the hum is annoying when I want to favor one pickup. I already asked Nordstrand about building me some Big Splits for it. They said it was possible, but they can only do 17mm spacing, so the strings wouldn't line up perfectly. Thinking I might not want to go that route.
As an alternative, I'm kind of looking at the SR756 which is only $900. I could then yank the electronics myself if I wanted to. That bass isn't nearly as attractive as the 5006 to me, but it's $1400 less. I'm just wondering if I'd be happy with the fit and finish on the neck and fretwork. I also wonder if it's as durable as the finish on the Premium. I hate the durability of the SR50x basses. Those bodies are just asking to be destroyed.
