Trolling the Kijiji.ca site has become a [sometimes 2 or 3 times] daily ritual for me [check it out for grins, even if you do not live in Canada], beginning before 'the plague' ate our gig calendars, and as I posted not too far upthread, I've roughly doubled my number of basses since the pandemic began, though also got rid of most of my cabinets, especially the heavier ones, so I hear you, and have found it necessary to restrain myself a few times lately. :woot:

It CAN be difficult. :eek:

And I can do those sentences too. ;)

On another 'note', I did get several gigs in during August and September of last year, before Omicron hit, and also one during the wave, where rapid testing and proof of vaccination were required to enter the premises, and masking except when on stage performing.

GAS, in particular, also defines a state of believing that if you buy that new guitar, it will make you a better guitarist. Or if you buy that new camera, it will make you a better photographer. The true cure for GAS is to just keep using and practicing with the gear you already have, instead of spending money on stuff you don't actually need, and won't improve your skills just because you have a new toy.

Of course, I ignore all of that...

(The counterargument is "well, now I have the new gear, so I'm more motivated to use it and practice with it," but while that's a compelling argument, it's rarely true in the situation of a full-on GAS attack.)

How many people actually believe that a better/new instrument will make them play better? I always thought GAS was only about wanting to own gear. I do think gear will give me the tones I'm looking for but I was never under the illusion that it would change, let alone improve my playing.

Anyway the best cure for GAS for me has always been being in dire straits.

Dunno about @pcake, but I'm aware. I'm hoping they ship some to Europe.

I have also lusted in my heart for a pink Bronco. You know darn well I'll slap a big ol' Hello Kitty face and Cat's Paw inlays on it if I get one....

Ya, someone posted upthread about this a few days ago, and I as usual lamented that we in Canada again seem to have gotten no respect from Fender.

They tell their dealers in other countries that they are not allowed to ship any of their products to here [apparently to protect our dealers], and then they do not make arrangements with any Canadian dealers to carry portions of these special runs.

It's hit me so bad that the other day, someone nearby posted an ad for a used pink Bullet Strat [I think it was], and I'm considering buying THAT, just to get some pink ! :laugh:

i'm often a victim of gas, and not once have i thought it would make me a better player. someitmes there may be a reason to want a particular bass - you don't have a 5-string or fretless, have physical issues and need a smaller body or shorter scale, looks right for the genre of your band - but often it's just pure gear lust. like REALLY wanting a pink bronco when i actually have a red bronco.

i have gotten cameras with better ergonoics and features i actually use that, while they haven't made me a better photographer, have made it possible or easier for me to take the pics i wanted. the same is more true of lenses. for example, i take pics of birds in flight, which is impossible without a long enough lens and a camera with a stabilized EVF if you're not using an optical viewfinder.

Almost all of those are completely valid reasons, especially if the funds are available.

But other times, it's "just because...." :D ;)

Sure, I could do without a pink bass, but "one of these days, ah'm a gonna HAVE one !" [spoken in the voice of Yosemite Sam]

Same goes for purple, and there's even a club here for those.

I alway assume ill suddenly play like the guy in the video that gave me GAS.
