I agree this tiny thing rock's.Hard to find vintage sound out of class d amps these days,my tape wound flats,& Peavey mini max v2 head solves all sound issues I have.It has enhanced low end kosmos circuit.My Mini P was fine with stock pups.Tape wound strings and a low end geared amp and good speaker cab make a big difference if you want vintage sound.I think Rumble amps are way over rated,But I'v allways been a Diehard Peavey fan.Just say'in.All lthough I tryed a Rumble 40,It was a good practice amp for a beginner on a budget.

Hey all, quick question.

Fender/Squire don't make the MPB in left handed so I was planning on just flipping the nut and restringing it, except I noticed that the P pickups are actually mirrored on my left P bass. This means that if I restring the MPB the strings will be ordered wrong over the pickups, will this make a noticeable difference to the sound or do they just mirror the lefties for the aesthetic?

If it will make a noticeable difference, would it be okay to just swap the pickups around and turn them upside down? (so that each string is over the part of the pickup it's supposed to be, but the pickups are stacked in the wrong order). Or would I need to mill out new space for them sideways and turn them upside down then make a new pickguard?

ISTR that some basses have the pickups in the 'reverse' order so it'll work, but I don't know what difference it'd make to the sound. Also, might the knobs get in the way of your plucking hand - maybe use lower knobs?

Theoretically the lower strings will be brighter and the higher strings darker. It might even be more balanced

I keep mine in a strat gig bag. Fits perfectly.

I bought nut files so I could deeped the slots on a few basses and...I overfiled the A and G string slots in my Mini so now they touch the first fret when open.
I had to go ahead and mess it up, didn't I?

I don't feel like messing with baking soda and super glue, I'm going to order a new nut for it. I guess a Graph tech Tusq XL for a Jazz bass should fit since it's the same width. Can anybody confirm that it fits the Mini?

You can also raise the existing nut by putting a piece of card stock under it; you're going to have to remove it either way. Something like a business card should be thick enough to do the trick. It's how a tech fixed a nut on one of mine.

If I'm removing the factory nut, which is a hassle because they often use super glue and it's easy to chip the neck, I'm installing a new, better but.

Mostly I wanted to bring the strings in a little tighter from the edges of the fingerboard, and this bridge let's me do that.

I bought one of the Squier mini Precision Bass a couple years ago, took it out of the box slapped it into a gig bag and promptly lost it in a closet for nearly 2 years. Took it out last month and nearly had to get a tetanus shot after encountering fret sprout from hell. It already needed filing new and a little aging in the gig bag weaponized it. Nothing a little filing couldn't remedy and a little conditioning oil for the board that was dry from day 1. I swear I heard it sigh with relief and pleasure. Didn't like the stock strings very much, bought LaBella 760 FM-P.

A few things:

1) Captain Nemo would be impressed with frenetic dive Dive DIVE this bass has. My ancient strap can't keep it on, the strap buttons are Houdini escape masters.

2) the relief is fine but the action was crazy high, i brought it down via the saddles to the max recommended by my string gauge ruler thingie. The first fret is stupid hard to press down. As it happens, the nut is not glued in so if I wanted to (I do) I can sand the bottom of the nut to lower the strings. What clearance should I aim for?

3) the pickup. Does Squier Indonesia use a different supplier than Tonerider? I wasn't too crazy about the tone I got with the stock strings when I recorded the mini precision but I haven't tried it yet with the flats. I also have a Fender Vintage 57 split coil p bass pickup and a bass wiring harness around somewhere, with CTS pots and an orange drop cap. That should be a nice upgrade.
