The Squier Mini Precision Bass Club

I bought one of the Squier mini Precision Bass a couple years ago, took it out of the box slapped it into a gig bag and promptly lost it in a closet for nearly 2 years. Took it out last month and nearly had to get a tetanus shot after encountering fret sprout from hell. It already needed filing new and a little aging in the gig bag weaponized it. Nothing a little filing couldn't remedy and a little conditioning oil for the board that was dry from day 1. I swear I heard it sigh with relief and pleasure. Didn't like the stock strings very much, bought LaBella 760 FM-P.

A few things:

1) Captain Nemo would be impressed with frenetic dive Dive DIVE this bass has. My ancient strap can't keep it on, the strap buttons are Houdini escape masters.

2) the relief is fine but the action was crazy high, i brought it down via the saddles to the max recommended by my string gauge ruler thingie. The first fret is stupid hard to press down. As it happens, the nut is not glued in so if I wanted to (I do) I can sand the bottom of the nut to lower the strings. What clearance should I aim for?

3) the pickup. Does Squier Indonesia use a different supplier than Tonerider? I wasn't too crazy about the tone I got with the stock strings when I recorded the mini precision but I haven't tried it yet with the flats. I also have a Fender Vintage 57 split coil p bass pickup and a bass wiring harness around somewhere, with CTS pots and an orange drop cap. That should be a nice upgrade.

Do a full setup and fix the nut slots last. A clearance of 20/1000" at the first fret is a good starting point, then deepen the slots until you have the smallest gap when doing the following: fret the string at the 3rd fret and hold it down, then press down at the first fret, there should be the tiniest gap

Max Junger (the owner of Pyramid) suggested gauges .055 .075 .095 .112 black tape nylon strings.

He asked me for some measurements and then asked me to double check them - and that was the process. I was sent a pro-former invoice I paid via PayPal.

We did everything in English without any difficulty. The strings arrived about 12 days later.

I guess the market slice is just too small, despite how hardcore we might be here. Still, they did a FSR shell pink Bronco a few years ago - a lesser bass IMO - so who knows. TB is powerful enough that Labella now makes a set for the Mini. Apologies, I don't remember the user who made it happen!
