Has anybody used the Hipshot UltraLites with the Mini Clover on their Mini-P? I currently have Gotoh GB707's but even with a Hipshot Kickass at the other end the Mini-P suffers extreme neck dive. Now I could go for the Gotoh GB350 Res-O-Lites but I would rather have the Mini Clovers from Hipshot to try and replicate the traditional P bass look.

Do they fit ok or will I need to enlarge the holes, do the keys hit each other or is there enough space on the headstock?

In terms of neck dive I can do the strap through the belt trick I saw in a YouTube video and that makes the bass much more comfortable to play, but I'm hoping the switch to ultralites not only will look cool as hell but may help with the neck dive when I am not wearing a belt.

If someone has photos of their headstock with the Mini Clovers could you post it so I can get an idea on how they would look.

Hi,Stuey 3D, I have 2 Mini P's with hipshot Ultralight Clovers-Black-looks cool as heck.I play sitting down,so I dont know about neck dive.I'ma old dude.They fit fine and have enough clearance.Here is a picture of one of my mini p's with the hipshot ultra light clovers flattened out so you can se the clearance,not much but about 1/16th of an inch .Thats all you really need.

Sweet that is exactly what I was hoping for, I was never a big fan of clover tuners before but since owning a couple of full size P basses I now see that clovers really do look the best with a fender style bass, so glad the mini clovers fit.

I'm assuming its the smaller 3/8 ones I need rather than the 1/2 ones? Sorry I'm the over side of the pond and imperial measurements confuse me.

Yes,the peg is 3/8.The hole size on the headstock is 14 mm from the factory the hipshots are13.72 mm measured with my digital caliper.I used some foil tape wrapped around the insert to make up any difference.It works perfectly.Might not even be nessesary.here is a picture of one hipshot with the tape

Ahh nice, I did hear of some people putting tape around the insert but 0.28mm shouldn't be too loose, plus when they are tightened down it should hold them in place anyway. I was more concerned that the holes would be too small and need reaming out which I definitely didn't want to do as I am no woodworker lol.

I don't quite understand: a Strat body is about 13 inches wide and the P Mini is under 11, so there's quite a bit of empty space in the width. My two Strat cases, one from Fender, both of which fit a Strat perfectly, look like Stan is wearing Ollie's suit with the P Mini in them:

Are your cases smaller (and won't fit a regular Strat), or is the 'perfect fit' including the huge gaps?

Has anyone tried a (rectangular) Mustang case?

Mime fits my Fender Start harshell case perfectly.

Fende deluxe strat/tele gigbag will fit like a glove with no room.

The bottom one is for my Mustang bass, Gator Jazzmaster gigbag; as you can see, there is some room.

IMO any strat case will fit.

My question concerns the truss rod adjustment and the amount of relief in the neck of a Mini P. Fender factory specs for bass guitars is between .012" and .014". I have used these as a guide on my full-scale Fender American Standard. Is it the same for the Mini even though the scale is a lot shorter? There was nothing in the pamphlet that came in the box about relief. Right now, the relief on my Mini is right at those numbers after changing rounds and flats several times and feels good. So, have I answered my own question?

I really liked these D'Addario short scale nickel rounds 45-100 on my Mini P when I had it and they are inexpensive and last quite a while for rounds.

A modest contribution by yours truly:

Squier Mini P (28.6" scale) strings: a roundwound option + a LaBella flat alternative (Pyramid Gold)​

The gist of it is
- there is a Pyramid Gold set, originally made for the smallest fractional double-bass size, that should fit like a glove on the Squier Mini Precision
[how it sounds I wouldn't know (haven't tried it yet), but I would imagine, based on the discussion in this thread, deeper but less defined than the La Bellas]
- as I long suspected, only to be just-recently vindicated, the largest four strings from the Ernie Bass 9-string electric guitar set (#2628, 9-String Slinky) are also the right length (small ball-ends, so they may require an additional stopper of some kind at the bridge).


Plus, I remember @pcake mentioning how the Ibanez-branded coated roundwound set for the MiKro bass (IEBS4CMK) was unusually short, which makes me think it may fit just fine on the Mini P.


Beyond these, and as far as I know, there's only either conventionally short-scale sets (and winding some low E at full thickness on the post), or going custom (Newtone Strings or the aforementioned Pyramid).
