It's an option that is not much publicized (same as the custom colors I imagine). I have several other Status necks, all glossy: the satin finish does feel more comfortable, even if I don't suffer from moisty hands.
The front of the headstock is glossy.
This bass is a vintage/modern hybrid :D
Hipshot tuners, Nordstrand pickup, John East 3-band preamp, the Status neck meet a vintage 1977 body and hardware.

I spoke to Rob about it yesterday in fact. He said they're doing a lot of necks in satin these days, and offers it as a 50 GBP upgrade. I'm about to order my sixth Status neck and will be doing it in satin this time around.

Did anybody else catch this on the Status website?
"To avoid any confusion, necks are now supplied without the 'Status' logo on the front face.
We now use a more discrete, round logo on the back of the headstock next to the serial number.
This simply states that it is a custom graphite neck made by Status in England."

Not sure how I feel about it as I dug the red Status logo on the front of the headstocks on my first five Status necks. I'm about to order number six and think the headstock looks a little barren without a logo.

I periodically consider a Status neck, but it seems we have a rare bird in common...

I like the look of it both ways and it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. To avoid confusion with what, though?

Regarding the necks in satin, I can appreciate that feel. My 1994 Bogart Blackstone has a satin finish neck is that just sublime (and my old Zon Sonus had similar). The three Status Graphite basses I used to own were all beautifully finished in high gloss and I wouldn't change a thing about them. Indeed, I'd buy my old Stealth 1 six string back if I could.

It's a long shot, but does anyone know if you can still order a mk1 Stealth bass shape? I'd kill for another.

The confusion I could imagine happening, would be that people could see a picture of my bass (for example) and think it was a stock Status bass. Then Rob would have to explain that no, he does not make Stingray copies :D

We sure do, and mine is fretless as well :D
It was my first fretless bass, got it in 1989, if memory serves... mine has the stock Di Marzio P and the utterly useless Eko J... and they are wired out of phase from the factory!
Still, it has a pretty good fretless P bass tone.
Hey, we also have another uncommon instrument we share: the Chapman Stick ;)

Yep, when I spoke to them when getting my neck I asked for a back logo only, but it was before they did it, it's OK, but I wasn't a fan of the status logo.

They were considering it at the time and consequently done it because having the name out front people could assume it's a 'status' bass and if someone has put together a stinker it may reflect badly on them with someone assuming the whole bass is a Status product.
That's about it really - sure they will keep one on the front, or may even have one in stock.

When ordering my Status neck Rob told me that it was going to be the last batch with the red Status logo, that from now on they will only make the necks with the small white logo in the back with the serial number to avoid confusions.
