So I bought a non sushi box pedal (I know I know) a drunk beaver FX distortion, basically a really nice multi mode ds1...

Yay! I only have on Drunk Beaver pedal, but I really love it - it's an Ivan Mazepa; it's kind of something in between a Big Muff and a Fuzz. As some that loves Muffs, but has never really cared for Fuzzes, it hits a good middle-ground for me

Correct, all combinations are possible and in "wet" positions the two outputs are separated by a buffer so neither affects the other. Trying to make this possible on all D.I.'s going forward.

Would would everyone suggest stacking a UA with?

I've been the happiest putting a Geddy YYZ (from Tech21) before the UA. For my purposes, it works out perfect to have some mild solid-state overdrive driving the natural tube-y goodness. More EQ options than you need at that point, but still compact!

Yep. This is hard to beat IMO

My Line up: OminiComp > YYZ (dirt) or SV-Pre (clean) > UA (Eq off, Gain at noon) > Messenger Jr.

Oh wild, haven't seen those in a minute. For April Fools Day in 2022 I made a joke that I had discovered a "superior" technology to tubes and would be switching everything over to solid-state, so for the day I removed everything else from my website and put these 5 pedals up. I think I made 3 of each pedal and sold 2 of each, I think the last set is in a box somewhere in my crawl space.

These pedals are all basically clones of circuits that are out there already, they are:
Fuzz Box - Catalinbread Merkin Fuzz
Heavy Box - ProCo Rat
Squeeze Box - Keeley 4-knob compressor
Verb Box - I honestly don't remember what circuit, but I know it's a digital emulation of a spring reverb
Echo Box - Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay

Despite making a post April 2nd to clarify that this was a joke, I've had to answer an embarrassing number of emails reiterating it. This has been the main reason I don't do April Fools jokes anymore. I will continue working with tubes, because tubes are my thing. The April Fools pedals are good pedals, they're just not my thing.

A very reasonable question, but unfortunately no. It's really straightforward to stick it into preamps, but there isn't a really good spot for it in the compressor like there would be in a preamp.

This might be a dumb question but I wasn't finding an answer on my own: how do you know if a tube is Sushi compatible? I probably haven't found the answer because I'm not quite sure what to look for. Thanks!

It's not a dumb question at all and there's occasional wrong tube info floating around online. The standards to use, from high to low gain order, are 12AX7, 5751, 12AT7, 12AY7, and 12AU7. Those are all plug and play, there are others that *hypothetically* could work but would require an adapter or some other nonsense, and that's where the confusion online comes in.

I have one of those. Oven knobs for the win.

It can be hard to know for sure, especially since the same models can have different numbers. ECC81 and 6021 are both equivalent to 12AT7, ECC83 and 7025 are both equivalent to 12AX7, for example. If I find a tube with a number that I don't recognize (still happens from time to time), I google it. Most of the time there seems to be some audio forum somewhere where people have already said "that tube is basically the same as this one but with this small difference."
