The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

This is an idea I actually PM'd over to Sushi. Maybe a space heater into a Westinghouse in the same enclosure with an effects loop in the middle?
I’m more stoked to receive the SH and WH than I thought I would be. The descriptions sound right up my alley. Sounds very promising.

Is now a good time to idly speculate how cool it would be to have both of these circuits in the same enclosure?;):smug:

yeah baby

Something with Classic, There was blue line, black line, maybe white line?

This could get bad but just > Hughes Cox :roflmao:

Yeah, I thought that, too... but let the record show that I was not the one to post it... :smug:

Did I ever answer that PM? I don't distinctly remember, I apologize if not. So it's totally doable, there's no reason it couldn't happen besides my forgetfulness and tendency to be distracted easily :p

You didnt but I know you're busy, so I figured I'd give it some time. Is this a good idea?? I dont really know much of anything about amp/pedal construction but the idea was to create a tube tone station in a similar format to an amp (pre amp->power amp, with other effects in between in an effects loop)

So the big thing to address is that despite EF86 being a pentode instead of a triode it is very much not set up to respond like a power amp. There's nothing wrong with having two different preamps in one box and an FX loop between, but the Westinghouse is just another preamp, not a power amp simulator.

I'm not even sure what you guys are talking about but isn't a EL86 a power tube? I have a little 30 watt amp that has EL84s, less power but I think I can up it with the 86, I dunno, that's all European lingo right? the EL and ECC ect?

Oh ok! That's still totally fine. As long as it would be worth doing. I'm not sure what order would be best for the 2 preamps.

In any case, if this is a thing, I'll toss out Illumination Bass Station as the name (IBS for short )

Seems like, if this gets made, there should just be an order switch...

EF86, not EL86. The EF86 is a pentode and could in theory be configured as a power amp, but it's very low power and commonly used as a preamp tube by the likes of Vox and Matchless.

That would absolutely be doable.

A SpaceHouse IS intriguing of course, but here's a question for discussion... At what point would it just make more sense to go with one of the other preamps? Like... a double wide WH/SP pedal... Both seem good at doing one specific thing, but would it be more versatile (and take less pedalboard space) to just go with something like a LU/PA/Slampegg/X (depending on what flavor you want) that may not have the voltage control, but it'd have an EQ on it to get a wider range of sounds?

And it would be one more pedal (distraction) for @Sushi Box FX to make? ;);)

5sg.

I'm still waiting for my custom pedal to be built...ya'll need to get in line :D
