The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

The other tricky part is that Two Notes owns everything. Sushi is using someone else's stuff for the digital, so he's at the mercy of them and now will have to support the software, etc.
This is true. I'm 100% a hardware person, I dabble a little in firmware like the microcontroller that will handle the switching and display, but straight software is over my head. The IR loader can handle 3rd party IRs so you can throw whatever you want onto it, but as far as actually tweaking the settings of the IR itself (EQ, gain, reverb, etc) that all has to go through AMT's software. I like their software, it's easy to use but has lots of options, but if they decide to stop supporting it or make drastic changes there's nothing I can do.

I also use a CAB M+ and it is excellent, but Gondwana started as something I just wanted for myself and turned into something a couple other people were interested in. I set a couple patches up in my CAB M+ and now I never touch settings, and that's what I expect to do with Gondwana, but I fully understand that doesn't work for everyone.

@Sushi Box FX , I know you were looking at the SWR Interstellar Overdrive recently. I do like the EQ on that unit in general, just not sure where the mids are centered. Most important to leave out the Aural Enhancer circuit though.
It's still on my list, but I haven't looked at it recently. I'll take a look at the EQ in there, see what they're doing.

I was thinking about two channels, as that would add a lot more options, but that alone will push it to three tubes. I guess the big question I'm trying to decide on is if I want it to replace your entire rig or just a couple parts of it.

Good point, I definitely think an EQ defeat switch would be useful. I'll look around at EQs, I have trouble choosing things. Naturally the FMV (Fender) and James (Ampeg) are the two most prevalent tonestacks out there, especially in bass stuff, but I'll never stop searching for the one tonestack that will make everyone happy at the same time.
You'd be making a solid platform for other pedals, or it would be a standalone option for minimalist rigs.

I assume the headphone section of the Gondwana will not be specifically tube powered - is that correct ? Also any current plans for a Noble style high end pre ? ... Kelly
Correct, headphone amp will be solid-state. I have plans for a high-end pre, but it will be a scratch design rather than "based on" anything else I've built. I know generally what I want to go into it, but I want to take the time to get it right. In the meantime I am still planning on doing a DI version of PAX and Slampegg X, I expect to have a design for those in the next couple months.

I don't remember if there is one specific place where I lay the whole thing out, but the goal is for it to be my "all-in-one box" featuring a tube preamp, IR loader, headphone amp, and DI output. It's an ambitious project for me so I've broken it into phases:

Phase I - Try out the IR loader with the manufacturer's development board
Phase II - Design a similar development board with an OLED screen and digital selection of IR patches
Phase III - Replace op-amp stages of IR loader development board with tube stages so all analog signal paths are tube
Phase IV - Add tube preamp in front of IR section, add headphone amp and DI at end, include dedicated unaffected out from preamp

I just ordered the Phase III circuit boards yesterday, and frankly if that works it will already be a pretty useful box, but my goal is to have Phase IV (probably) be the last phase and have it released late spring/early summer.

I was originally considering including a digital effects module in there, but I'm thinking about putting in an FX loop instead so you can use whatever effects you want instead of being stuck with whatever I come up with.
A switch to have an effected preamp out would be useful for some of us with FRFR cabs, just in case... often a requested feature on SL Olympic mkIII.

Put a NOS Telsa into the PA X I got today (it looks soo good). It glows, the LED light comes on, if I turn the volume up there's some sort of sound - sort of like the low bass textures added to Marvel movies.

Any trouble shooting ideas?

I was using a 1 spot and let 'warm up' for five minutes at least

Do you have a different tube to try in it?

Just tried one. No sound. However, now the LED flickers at around 40 bpm and simultaneously there’s a sound like pulling a jack out of a pedal without turning down the amp first.

Just put that second one back in the Edison it came out of and it works.

tried the same with the Tesla and it looks like it’s kaput

Wait, you took a tube from an Edison and put it into your PAX? Edison takes an EF86, PAX is 12AX7, 100% different tubes with different pinouts. I don't think it would damage anything in the PAX (I'm not positive, I'll look into it), but don't do that again :P

92% of noise in my preamps is from power supplies, and I've noticed some 12AX7 don't like running at 9V as much as others. Do you have a 12V supply you could try? Polarity doesn't matter, so if you have a random appliance that runs on 12V that power supply should work.

If the noise persists please make a recording of it and send it to me, pictures are worth a hundred words but video/audio are worth at least a thousand in troubleshooting.

I've been sketching the forms for roughly 45 country songs this week for a gig Saturday, and now, coming to this thread, it makes me think of a herd of 200 cats surrounding and trying their best to guide a farm hand, tub of freshly squeezed cow's milk in both arms, toward their barn instead of the house where he's headed.

Also I'm most definitely taking the Slampegg-kitted board to said gig.

Also I inherited, recently, a 1964 Fender Princeton amp, and am starting to brainstorm on what I can do putting the Particle Accelerator before it....

Super interested in the headphone amp and DI. I also have the Darkglass element and I think it’s cool but I also am looking to replace it with something as soon as it makes itself available. The reason why I bought it was because of the Bluetooth capability. But then I immediately missed the make organic tone of my DSM. So..yeah I’ll drop the element like a girlfriend who gave me crabs if you can put something together that can replace it.

Lots of irons in the fire with new designs and upgrades and higher production numbers too ! You’re a lucky man Nathan that your wife and kids are also into this “ hobby “ of yours !!!! I think it’s great that you are so accessible and accountable too but none of this would matter much ( outside of your family’s attitude ) if the product wasn’t so good . Keep on keeping on but remember how blessed you are and try and get some sleep some time to recharge the batteries ... Kelly

It makes me think - what could/would you do with an 6AL5?
