The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

A question also came up if I was planning to do a "Noble killer" to which the answer is both yes and no. I am planning to do a flexible, great sounding preamp with a great sounding D.I. section (Furthermore), which is what Noble is. It will be smaller and less expensive, which as I discussed last night is largely due to me using 9-12VDC input rather than AC input, which means I don't need a power transformer, which is the largest and probably the most expensive single component in the Noble. I like what Noble does, it's a very well-designed and well-built unit and I have a lot of respect for them. I'm not trying to steal customers from them, just trying to offer something a little different that checks a lot of the same boxes.
You would not be stealing anything, there's room for everyone : with a 40 week waiting list, they already have enough on their plate I think. Plus, if someone is dead-set on getting a Noble they will get a Noble anyways, they probably won't accept anything else... but someone who wants an excellent sounding tube preamp + DI at a reasonable price, does not need the additional power supply that the Noble has, and without having to wait for almost a year, they should just get a SushiBox :hyper:

Oh man, I just went back and started listening to part 2 of the Q&A. Yikes. Huge kudos to anyone that stuck with it. Like I knew the webcam audio would be bad, but holy crap I had no idea it was that bad. I don't blame anyone for jumping off when that came on, that is atrocious.

I thought my hearing aids were failing;).

@Sushi Box FX any chance the furthermore would have an aux-in as part of the headphone amp? Apologies if this has been covered already. I like my Darkglass X Ultra but feeding it with other overdrives creates wild peaks n valleys in the frequencies that are hard to dial out.

I haven't really decided yet. I absolutely see the benefit of it as a practice tool, but it's another thing to add in there. I guess "we'll see" is the best answer I can give right now.

This.

What is Venus X and why will I need one?

EDIT: oops, I see you answered it as I was typing this post
I'll have more details as it progresses, but the general idea is a two channel tube preamp, active 4-band EQ, cabsim, and D.I. output. It will be pretty neat. After a year of on-and-off back-and-forth we finally nailed down the base tone of the preamp, so the next steps should hopefully go fairly smoothly. The goal is to have a fully-functioning unit to show off at NAMM 2023, then get it set up to produce on a larger scale and formally release shortly afterward.

What ever happened the Red Box you and Tony worked on together? That get shelved for lack of tubes?
That was actually all transistor, no tubes in there. That was just kind of a one-off request Tony had to see what I could do with a sound that he wanted.

What I find myself wondering is, who is this Tony fella, and why are his needs more important than my desire for a Bassmaster preamp? I guess others don’t Find me as important as I find myself.

Nobody said the YBA wasn't happening. I think enough people have expressed interest in it that it's pretty likely that it will at least get built and tested out. Just not enough hours in the day is all
