The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

my local Music Go Round just got an Elementary in, and I swapped my Dr Wattson for it. I always found the Doc a little dark, and the output was touchy, with minimal room for a clean sound. I mean, thats the point, right? more of a high gain Hiwatt sound? anyway, the Elementary is exactly what I wanted, clean bright, and high headroom. Tried it on my bass and my guitar and so far, it’s a winner. They also have a Slampeg, and Im sorely tempted. I dont NEED another B15 sim, but.... :)

Which version of the Dr Wattson did you trade? It doesn’t show up on their website yet but I’ve been looking for a mini tube version and so was curious if I should start hammering the refresh button. :)

that's strange because my Dr Wattson is the opposite. it's a little too bright for me (so i run the treble control fully CCW) and to me, there's more than enough clean range on it (it doesn't really distort until 11 o'clock on the gain control).

@Sushi Box FX , can you describe what the Bassdude will look like?
Yup they'll look a lot like this. Serial number will be laser engraved into the black box in the corner there.

it was the 12ax7 version. I was in there during the show storm Friday, so I'm sure they're catching up.

entirely plausible its user error, but also keeping in mind Im using it primarily on guitar for DI recording. I could see it being a good dirt pre amp into a live amp, but it just wasn't the Sushi for me.

I'm gonna preface this idea with this: if it's good Sushi, please put it at end of development to-do list...

Tube based volume pedal? Tube for a buffer so the volume pedal doesn't alter sound. It may not be practical as a stand alone pedal. Just thinking out loud.... perhaps a way to connect an expression pedal to the volume out on a current pedal? I'd have the same effect.

Gotta love procrastination. I end up thinking about bass stuff and on TB instead of doing what I should...:(

The MORE works well for that purpose. If you could put the MORE in a small expression pedal housing, that would do it. I might actually consider something like that.

If you swap the tube in a stock More for a 12ax7 it will provide about a whopping 30X clean gain factor. Done.

Yeah and I was thinking what @Parzival said too. But currently I'd have to mod it to make it work with an expression pedal, and I'm not that good. I like the volume swell thing.

But yeah a More as a boost pedal would work great for a few other things. Most passive instruments sound different with the pot turned down due to inductance, etc. (tech stuff I'm probably not remembering correct at the moment). So turning down on bass to get that sound, then boosting with a more would work for that, but not volume swells.

So, I feel like I read somewhere a while ago that the Slampegg Bee Pre is actually based on an Ampeg B25, and not a B15. Knowing that the B15 uses a 6SL7 tube in the preamp section, if I were to replace the stock 12AX7 tube in the Slampegg with a 12AT7, would that get me closer to B15 territory than the stock 12AX7? Not that I have any issues with the Slampegg as is, just curious is all. I have no frame of reference either as I have never had the fortune of playing through a B15...

The only difference between the two preamps is 12AX7 vs 6SL7. My intention in designing Slampegg Bee Pre wasn't to design a B-25 preamp, it was to design a B-15 preamp with a modern production tube, and I've also been told the later B-15N used 12AX7.

That being said some players prefer a lower gain tube like 5751 in Slampegg, which has the same amplification factor (70) as 6SL7 and is a drop-in replacement for 12AX7. 12AT7 is close, but actually has a lower amplification factor (60) than 6SL7.

Thank you, good sir! Much appreciated! Perhaps I will snag a 5751 and try it out, just for fun!

Were the individual pedal dimensions/specs inadvertently deleted from the web site or am I bumbling and confused?
They were removed so I could add them back in a more organized way and have forgotten to do so. I'll get on that now.

Just did it, enclosure dimensions have been added to all pedals in the shop.

Also in case anyone was wondering, I have everything in stock right now aside from More, and I actually have a handful of More units built up just waiting for my tube shipment to arrive.

Hey guys, does anyone know the main differences between the Particle Accelerator X and the Underground Accelerator? Is the older version closer to the alembic/cleaner? Have an opportunity to buy a used one and I’m more interested in the fender sound, wondering if it makes more sense to go the particle accelerator route

should mention, I’m not using this for bass guitar but rather from the low pass output of my Hammond. Paring with a 1x15 cab and the Carvin Mach 100 power amp pedal

The Underground Accelerator definitely has the Fender Sound with a tube sound thrown in. Check out the specs on Sushi Box. It has the Fender tone stack. Newer versions (after 10/2023) have the same specs as the Hand Wired so, no need to pay extra. I asked Mr. Sushi what the difference was and he said "Bragging rights"!

Just read your edit...I have no idea what it sounds like with a Hammond;)!

Wouldn't you rather play your "Hammond" through a Leslie?:laugh::laugh:

Welcome 2 TB @Pomcq . I have had a PA mini tube, PAX as well as several UA versions. Both PA pedals nail the Fender Showman/Alembic F2B preamp perfectly. I preferred the mini tube version that is still on my recording board. I wound up trading away the PAX for another @Sushi Box FX pedal, a first version Finally.
