just a quick question on my head, the series 6 ah100....

i plan to use it standalone for a while until i can afford a poweramp....once i get the poweramp will using this purely as a preamp without powering a speaker from the trace, will that harm the head in any fasion?

Won't harm it a bit. I did that for a while with an old AH200 series 6 I had (man, how many friggin' Traces have I owned?!?!? ) and it worked fine.

I would recommend taking the head with you to the store at which you plan to buy the power amp (assuming you aren;t going to order one online) and try it with various amps to make sure you find the one that is best suited for the preamp in your Trace. I would also recommend sniffing out an old Trace power amp if you can find one (I've found two at various Music-go-rounds, believe it or not) because it will be suited for your Trace's preamp. Plus, they make GREAT power amps.

cool...i just got told wheni bought my old peavey head that using it without powering a speaker can risk blowing up the power section thats all.....well at this stage i plan on buying a mackie m800 off a mate..but i think it was a little out of the ordinary finding that head in the first place, being australia and all, the only other trace ive seen is a 15" combo and a silver face head of some description

I got the GP7 SM Preamp, the version that aint rackmountable, anyone know if there is a trick to rackmount it?

Non-rackmountable? Is it in a head cabinet? If it is, it probably will not have a full chassis. You can take it out of the cabinet to check (it will be held in by four screws from the top, usually under four plastic caps). Without a full chassis, you'll have to fabricate something for it to attach to.

If it's simply missing the rack ears, you could easily make a couple out of sheet steel.

I thought I'd share a pic of my TE rig with you so here it is :)

Thats one sweet setup!!! And one sweet King Diamond picture in the background.

Whats up with that Fender? I've never seen one of those.

Wow, I can't believe that I missed both of those details! I was too enamored with the Quad Valve! FWIW, I saw King Diamond quite a while back in Columbus. Talk about a show!

And yeah, what kind of Fender is that?

As for another detail, that looks like Blackie Lawless playing his bass with an armadillo, if I am not mistaken... ;)

ha ha...yeah i was engulfed in the masjetic beauty of the quatravalve as well.

Whats weird is, I saw King Diamond last night @ BB kings in NYC...and he still puts on an absolutely amazing show.

3 of my favorite things in one post Trace Elliot's superb bass amplification, King Diamond, and unique Fender basses
