I've still got my green tolex 1818. :) In addition to what Kelly has mentioned, the catalog states: 300 watts, 8ohms, 3" voice coil, frequency response 32Hz-6kHz, SPL 102db @ 1w@1m, weight 37.6Kg.
Hmm, it is lighter than I thought but I was real close! :smug: 37.6 Kg = 82.9 lbs.

Has anyone tried using their Trace 1518T as a standalone cab, i'm in a situation where i either buy a combo to use till i can get another cab and a head or just buy the head and use it with just hte 1518T?

opinions?
You should have no problem using the 1518 as a standalone cab as long as your not in a deathmetal band playing against two stacks and a brutal drummer.

I sometimes use my 1518 as a standalone for practice because moving my 1524 can really be a pain to transport.

this is my setup, i've got two heads (top : RAH 300SMX, bottom : AH 200SM) running two cabs (Trace 1524+ tweeter and behringer BB115)

Each amp is connected with an output on my CEB-3 chorus pedal.
This all together makes one hell of a (loud) sound!!
Heh, looks like your a Trace freak like me! :D BTW, nice looking rig! :bassist:

Hmm, I'm surprised that the 1818 doesn't go down to 30Hz but then again frequency responses are to be taken with a massive pinch of salt. I was just considering trying to score one of these for real cheap and using it for a lethal low B :). Still am come to think of it, if the price is right.

The one on ebay? or do you have a better deal lined up?

I've seen them around before, I was watching the eBay one with half-interest. It's more for future reference I guess, I might spring for the eBay one but it's unlikely, I need a new pair of rock climbing shoes and I have other more pressing bass-related needs.

LOVE! Phenominally good sound!!!:hyper:

Hi!
I'm about to change pre-amp tubes in my V-type 4808 combo.
Previous owner used Sovtek 12ax7wa, but scheme sais that there should be ecc83 (with greater amplification value).

Is V-type 'prepared' for experiments with different tubes (I plan to put ecc83 as V1 and ecc81 as V2), or mayby some of you tried different tube configurations?

Thank you in advance.

BTW Can anyone ID this head for me? because i dont actually know what model or if it is gibson or anything?
It says Gp7 Series underneath the trace insignia
It's waaaaaaaay pre-Gibson! I would bet on it being made in the late 80's and it pre-dates the SMX series of heads.

As for what specific model, it should be hand written on the back of the amp.

Your amp was the baby of the family. It is rated 130 watts at 4 ohms and was the entry level amp at the time. Don't let that fool you though as it was still a high quality amp.

As to age, like I said, probably late 1980's. If you pop it open you can look at the handwritten dates on the "inspected by" tags that they put on the transformer and PC boards. It will give a very good approximation of build date.

Worth? Unfortunately this amp currently is only bringing around $150-$250 depending upon condition.

Do you guys use the pre-shaped sounds in combination with the graphic equalizers? I do, and I figure that I get the best sound out of my gp7 that way.
I use the Pre-shape but I tend to leave me EQ as flat as possible. I only adjust to the room if I need to.

I used to have the AH350 full stack with the 410 and 115, but I finally sold it. Took up too much room. This little combo kicks ass though and takes up a whole lot less space. It even fits in the trunk of my little honda civic coupe.

I'm down to only owning 4 TE amps and 1 preamp. It's nice though because now I only need one storage unit.
