Hi guys ,
I have a Ah 250 head with a 410 at home right now , actually i dont know who owns this rig , i borrowed it a few weeks ago and the owner seem to have forgot about it.
Anyways , i does not really work.
When i just tuch my amp , its makes distortion noises , and i cant play louder than practive volume , then the amps vibrates and started distorting.
Putting the amp somewhere else , like on a chair or something , doesnt help , it still makes funny noises if ill just touches it.
I know the amp has been fixed for this problem before , do anyone knonw what it is ? just something loose in the amp ?
Ive never had any problem with this before with any of my rigs , i dont use this rig , but it would be fun if it worked.
Thanks , Ale

Mr. B,
How do the VA's compare with the Quatra and Hexa's? What model VA's were there and do they all look like these for sale units?
Thanks!

My VA400 looks quite a bit different from those VA350's:

Sound-wise, it is more similar to the Valve series than to the V8, though it is certainly louder than either my Hexa Valve or Quatra Valve, and with the "tube direct" input, you can get a slightly more open and pristine tone than what you get from the "regular" inputs (which sounded more or less like the Valve series amps - but louder).

I actually prefer the looks of the Valve series, but in the end, I preferred the tonal options and volume potential of my VA400 to my Hexa, and therefore sold the Hexa. The V8, of course, crushes them all in terms of volume (and clean tone). Here's a fun shot:

The Hexa and VA400 preamps are essentially the same (GP12) but the Hexa uses a single tube to "warm" the circut a little. So them sounding similar makes sense, assuming the power sections aren't vastly different.

I'm not 100% sure why the VA400 was louder than the Hexa. The VA400 might be more wattage though? I'm not too familiar with it since it's so rare.

There is a "tube direct" input on the VA400 which is not present on the Valve series. It basically bypasses some of the preamp circuitry. But plugging into the normal inputs provides basically the same preamp section as the Valve series (Hexa and Quatra, at least - the Twin Valve has a different, 7-band, preamp).

Although they use the same tube set, the Hexa Valve and VA400 output sections differ in many ways, with the Hexa rated at @ 300w and the VA400 rated at @ 400w.

Hey Tom,
Is that QuatraValve in the photo modified physicaly in some way to carry around without the black vinyl wood case? Looks like the sides might be different?

It is my understanding that some of the Quatra Valves (and Twin Valve heads, not sure about Hexas) came with the "case" and some did not. This amp has not been modified, to the best of my knowledge.

Tom.

I sold my 1248 the day before yesterday for £230! maybe i should have asked for a little more... There's a guy selling one on bassworld.co.uk for £150 with a V4 for £580!

It's a cool cab, VERY heavy, it's a two man job every time. It sounds good, but I prefer the sound of 15s in general, and they don't really have the same 'snap' to them as 10s.

I'd like to try one of those trace 2x15s though...
