A year ago I got a '74 SVT and finally found The Tone in My Head. My poor Traynor was almost completely forgotten. Last night on a whim I set it up on the 810e and went to town on the YBA-200. And after lots of twiddling, it sounded damn close to the SVT.
The settings were Gain 4-6, Treble 0, bright off, Mid 10 (yes), Range 4.5, Bass 2, Scoop inactive, Resonance 1, and Master 5-6. I play a P-bass with flatwounds and tone control full-open. For what it's worth, one preamp tube is swapped out for lower gain.
It was so close to my hallowed Ampeg that I think I'm going to have to take it out to the next gig, to see if it sounds as good in the band setting.
My bandleader calls Traynor "The Canadian Peavey" not only because they're positioned similarly on the market spectrum, but also because their tone controls are designed to offer such wide adjustment that you can go from Good to Suck with just a pretty slight twist of a knob.
Yee-hah for the YBA-200.
