I second that!! My hs410 sound absolutely perfect with this amp. When I first got it I ran it with an hs210 and sa210. Smaller gigs I would use just one. They sound the same. One 4x10 sound bigger than the two 2x10's IMO

Yea, Jimmy. No biggie. Dont mind the schlep. Love the way the tube tone sounds with a rock band. Awesome. Notes bloom after u strike them, nice bit of overdrive also. Heaven

Hey all you SA200 owners!

I have an opportunity to purchase some TAD 6N1P's from a store in the UK. I have to buy 4 minimum for the order. I'd keep one or two for myself (since the SA200 came stock with it as the third and final tube in the preamp stage, and i might need an extra in a few years)...

...But would any of you be interested in buying either of the other two? I am pretty sure this online UK store is the only way for us to get Tube Amp Doctor (TAD) 6N1P's here to the states. Maybe the brand isn't that important, but i am trying to make my SA200 be as "stock" as possible (as many of you know, Roger chose all TAD tubes for this amp).

They would be around $17 shipped paypal e-check anywhere in the lower 48 (not really trying to make money off of these :) )

Hey, this is just a feeler, of course. Maybe no one cares about TAD tubes!

[But if there's a crew on TB who are willing to spend a few more bucks to retain the "stock" awesomeness of something, I would think it's you guys on this thread!]

God! Every time this thread pops up I get so jealous. I couldn't be happier about my rig (Thunderfunk 750 into an Accugroove Tri112 and Tri 115), but there is something about this amp I just can't resist. Everything from the way I'd imagine it sounds, to the beautiful aesthetics. I'm not even a big all tube fan, but damn! If somehow, for any reason, someone puts one of these babies up for sale, I'll have a hard time not picking it up. I wish Roger would reissue this amp, or I wish at least someone would release a tube amp of similar quality and character.

I just returned from a trip out to NYC. While I was there I stopped by the Sadowsky shop in Brooklyn and just had a WONDERFUL time hanging with Roger and Kevin. Great dudes.

They had an SA200 in the showroom running through an SA410 and SA210. This was the first time I'd played through these cabs (I have my SA200 running into Bergantino HS410s) and I have to say that I was impressed. I love my SA200/HS410 combination, but the SA410 certainly was tighter - containing some of those blooming lows.

HOWEVER - I also wanted to note that I peered into the SA200 in the shop and noticed that it had TAD EL34s (the stock tubes). Now while I don't know if they were the original tubes or if they'd been changed out, what I do know is that this amp sounded very different than mine. I have all JJ Tesla tubes in mine. The shop's amp was CLEAN - and very bright with tons of high end snap and clarity. The gain control was an entirely different animal with the shop amp. With my JJ loaded amp, I can drive it into fairly nasty (good nasty) distorted tones with ease, while with the TAD loaded amp, it wasn't wanting to give up the dirt.

For me, I prefer the sound of the JJs - slightly dirtier and more hefty. But it was a treat to hear the TADs. Anyway - just a friendly gas-inducing reminder that if you want to change the character of your SA200, it's just a few tubes away!

I talked to Roger for a few minutes about the amp and about the discontinuation of Sadowsky Audio and he told me that while he loved working on the project with Koch and Bergantino, it just ended up spreading him too thin. He said that it was taking too much time away from the instruments and seemed counterproductive in a way. Any hope of a reissue? No way - I certainly didn't get that impression.

So hang on to those SA200s boys! Rare birds.

Yup, I also hear the SA210 and SA410 as being slightly more tight in the low end than the HS series. This works out very well, IME/IMHO, with tube amplifiers, though I do slightly prefer the HS series with most SS amps. Not that the HS cabs are not great with tubes, as well. It's just a slight preference.

Funny thing is, as much of a tweaker as I am, I have never swapped out any of the tubes in my SA200. I'm just so happy with it just the way it is. :D

A couple of people have asked about the "live-in" style case I had Slamhammer Roadcases make for my SA200. Apologies for the crappy pic . . . but here's a quick shot. LOVE THE CASE. I can't say enough about how pleased I was with Slamhammer's operation. The measurements were perfect and the service was stellar. Great company and dudes.

That case looks great. Do you think they kept the plans/measurements if I wanted them to make me one?

Hey Spencer,

I'll bet they did. You ought to hit up Brian at Slamhammer (612.724.5395). He is the shop manager and a super cool guy. He worked with me to get the case PERFECT. All the little details about how much foam to have it sit in, how much clearance to leave for the rear panel, how much clearance to leave for the front knobs, etc, were considered and executed the FIRST time. And you can choose your case color. Cool.

OH - also - since he knew the top of my SA200 was going to be a piece of plexi-glass, he lined the top inside foam piece with crushed blue velvet - as to not scratch the plexi.

COME. ON.

More pictures of the case would be much appreciated. I'll definitely give those guys a call when I'm ready to have a case made. How much did it cost you, if you don't mind me asking?

How heavy is the case? Do they have any options as far as weight goes?

Yeah dude, your case is pretty badass. I had Brian build me a rack for my SA200, a shockmount four space in white. Hot damn. They do beautiful work over there, no doubt.

I have a question for all you SA200 owners...Is there any other tube head that sounds similar to this one? I'm not a big tube guy, but this thing just calls to me. Is there anything that even comes close to it (in sound and aesthetics)? It is so frustrating they stopped making these. I'd buy one just to enjoy at home. Hehe.
