HOWEVER - I also wanted to note that I peered into the SA200 in the shop and noticed that it had TAD EL34s (the stock tubes). Now while I don't know if they were the original tubes or if they'd been changed out, what I do know is that this amp sounded very different than mine. I have all JJ Tesla tubes in mine. The shop's amp was CLEAN - and very bright with tons of high end snap and clarity. The gain control was an entirely different animal with the shop amp. With my JJ loaded amp, I can drive it into fairly nasty (good nasty) distorted tones with ease, while with the TAD loaded amp, it wasn't wanting to give up the dirt.
For me, I prefer the sound of the JJs - slightly dirtier and more hefty. But it was a treat to hear the TADs. Anyway - just a friendly gas-inducing reminder that if you want to change the character of your SA200, it's just a few tubes away!
