I think if you want "that" sound, it's kinda where you have to go. As long as I have another bass on the stand with rounds, I think it is very cool. I am not sure I'd want to become an exclusive flats guy.

I used the 760FS-B, which they call the "standard" set. I may have gotten really lucky, but they went on easy peasy. I didn't have to tweak the neck and the intonation was very,very close right out of the box. This was coming from the strings Nino put on the bass, which were his SS .45s. I will say that those strings that Nino set it up with seem to be fairly high tension, so, again, maybe I got lucky.

I just ordered a set of GHS Pressurewounds for mine. I love the bass to death, but with nickel strings and the maple board it has a growly bright rock Geddy thing. I'm in a horn band, and I need a little more laid back tone out of it. The VTC helps, but I think it pulls off some mids I'd rather not lose.

We'll see how the Pressurewounds do.

I had his strings on the most recent build he did for me and they were higher tension than I prefer.
I have Dunlop bright nickels on almost everything.
I had to change relief and saddle height and intonation, but I've been doing my own setups for so long it takes no time...


The LaBella low tension play nicely. They're not as loose as TI Jazz flats but they're easier than chromes or regular LaBella

I'm also curious about the LaBella Low Tension Flats. Are they as loose as most black nylon string sets? If so, I won't try them but if they're in between black nylons and regular LaBellas (as far as string tension) then they could be a winner!

I use the LTFs on my Valenti P-Bass. They are definitely in between those above plus they break in is pretty quick. Great vintage tone.
