The Who fire Zac Starkey

Zac should have fired them first.

I saw the Who in 1975 at the Pontiac Silverdome. The warm up band was Toots and the Maytals. They were the better band that day.
I saw that show in Atlanta. The redneck crowd kept booing Toots & band off the stage. The Who were ok, but I enjoyed their 1973 show (with Skynyrd opening) more.

I regard these guys older than me (70) still being out there on the road the same way as Class Reunions from many years ago:

I totally believe they have every right to be out there, people will still pay $$$ to see them and that's great.

But I never went to my Class Reunions as I prefer to remember everyone as they were in their day, just like these bands I grew up with. Fortunately, I'm a minority.

Disagree, 100%

The proof is on the pudding.

Townsend has been absurd, or worse, for years. Daltrey hasn't been able to properly sing the songs for at least a decade.

Didn't they 'retire' back in the 90s? I distinctly remember a farewell tour.

If they're going to continually be putting it out there, and charging a premium to hear it, then I, as a consumer, can exercise my right to have an opinion about it.

I've been a fan since the 70s, but I have NO interest in seeing them in 2025. I've heard the music they're playing today. No thank you.

I'm pretty sure those guys have done more farewell tours than Kiss. The best parts of the band are deceased.

I have read all of their books and it was a typical business, meaning none were really friends, though Entwistle and Moon were buds in earlier years, but the others didn't mix or socialise at all. Thats seems more common than not in the pro circuit.
The days of local buds teaming up is long gone though Is obviously niceer when things were social and still worked.
There is a difference between being professional co-workers who don't socialize, and writing an entire book repeatedly calling your bandmates immature, spoiled, irresponsible, childish, etc etc.
Just page after page about what jerks the others are, and about himself being the only adult in the band.
Just tearing them down, calling Townsend selfish with the money from the songs he wrote, oh yeah... he did write a few pages to defend Townsend in that internet child porn credit card controversy though.

They might have been all of those things, and Townsend might be innocent of those charges, but Daltrey's own behavior is anything but typical, and definitely not professional.

Anyway, they were once a great band.

Led Zeppelin did it correctly; The Who did not.
Glad I got to see Entwhistle in a club.
To be fair, there were a few very good songs in the Kenney era. And John Entwistle had my favourite bass tones on these records.
But I agree that they shouldn't have carried on after Live Aid - and especially after 2002. To me their last "good" song was Real Good Looking Boy, which may as well be a Pete Townshend solo song.

I guess Roger's not getting a Christmas card from Ringo this year.

This just in….
Turns out there is a pretty large anti fire the drummer contingent out there. The internet really did kind of rise up and defend Zac, and blame Roger. 😁😎

This just in….
In a way, what had happened to Roger at about "My Generation", happened to Zak again. History repeats itself.

The funny thing about the who is they roar in like a lion but just sort of fade away every time. They don’t ever seem to be able to go out on a high.

This is likely the next iteration of this.

And then I read the thread. With Zac back in the band.

They probably should stop but it’s not up to me. I love Townshend’s writing. And playing. So while they still can they should.

Yes I’ve just contradicted myself.
