I'm coming in at the end of this thread, so this might have already been said, but....
Other than having enough volume to cover the gig, the overwhelming reason to buy a bass or amp, or any gear is for the enjoyment and inspiration for the player. I've owned and played everything from Tyler basses to Nordstrand, Squire's, Goya's, old Fenders, new Fenders, etc etc. All these cheap or expensive basses have inspired my playing. In some cases changed how I played the music. Its never been about the audience, its been about ME! Although.... There was that moment in the 80's when I put the red & black stripes of tape on my bass like Michael Anthony because I thought it would look cool in the audience.
