The big orange Gulf “disc” gas station sign was an iconic part of the American landscape. During its heyday, Gulf offered three fuel choices, at three different price points: Gulftane (sub-grade regular), Good Gulf (regular), and Gulf No-Nox (premium). No-Nox was marketed for the high-performance muscle cars popular from the 1950s to '70s; the high octane content didn’t necessarily add miles to the gallon, but it prevented engine knocks and pings. To promote the extra “kick” your car received from No-Nox, Gulf offered an adhesive set of horseshoes free with a fill-up. Rocking a pair of orange shoes on the bumper of your Camaro told the world that you cared enough for your ride to pay those extra pennies per gallon for premium.

I think it was a combo of their Brussels cookie, but harder and crunchier (if they were fresh), with mint added.

Gulf was based here in Pittsburgh, and had a research facility outside of the city limits. As for the plastic Horse shoes, I remember my brother and I trying to talk our father into sticking them on the back of his brand new Javelin. He wasn't having any part of that.
I have no idea where my parents got it, maybe an Esso station? But, when I was in second grade (1966) I wore an "Esso tiger" Halloween costume.

Unfortunately they discontinued it in the 1990's and the receipe to make it yourself is quite complex and expensive.

I had this book when I was a kid and made sure my mother bought Red Rose Tea so I could collect the cards that came in a box of tea bags. I loved this when I was a kid.

I used to be so into dinosaurs when I was a kid. I could rattle off the names of dozens of them. Unfortunately a bunch of wiseass scientists saw fit to start renaming many of them for who knows why. I don't think the Brontosaurus in the first pic is even called that anymore.

. I think it had something to do with the wrong skull put on to the wrong skeleton. But seeing how they can name these species however they want, why not keep "Brontosaurus"? It will always be "Brontosaurus" to me, though. Seriously, what sounds better - "Brontoburger" or "Apatoburger"?
