Has anyone mentioned those old death-trap minibikes? Bent conduit frame, lawnmower engine, square profile tires, no suspension, no brakes or a bar that rubbed on the rear tire (almost brakes)?

It is a wonder I ever lived to be 13 years old!

Today the kids have pretty decent tiny motorcycles with suspension and brakes... and frames that were designed by engineers, and are not made out of crap scavenged from a building demolition!

I had one of these... the front forks decided to 'detach' one day (we were kids... we didn't routinely conduct product safety checks!) on my sister... she proceeded to grind down her kneecaps on the gravel road we lived on... that stopped her! That was about 40 years ago- she still has nasty looking kneecaps!!

Probably could have sued... we didn't know you could do that- back then :rollno:

I had a Bronco Minibike and a Lil' Indian Minibike like these.

Best friend had one we piece together stole the lawn engine off his grandmothers lawnmower the cable snapped going to the throttle so to ride you had to lean forward and throttle the engine with one hand and steer with the other we rode that thing like crazy on a dirt track that the kids from the neighborhood created it was insane at one point you went up a steep embankment an road along a guardrail to a major highway that at the time had no posted speed limit it was nicknamed the Monster because it took many lifes. Picture blazing along a guardrail no helmet no goggles you and the rocks and dirt, 3 hp Briggs & Stratton engine full throttled out my guess 30 mph or more via your one hand and steer with the other yeah crazy kids

Pretty sure the mini bikes were posted in the previous things ya don't see thread, and pretty sure I responded with the same thing I'm going to respond with now :).

I wanted one of those things more than I think I ever wanted anything in my life. I drooled over them. My brother borrowed one from a friend when we went away one weekend to my uncle's country house. Lots of dirt roads, where 12 year olds could ride mini bikes without being bothered by anyone. Only problem was my lowlife brother wouldn't let me use it. So I got up at 6AM on Saturday morning and stole it :). Not really stole, but used... and I started the engine close enough to the house so that he'd know I did :spit: .

Had the scare of my life that day, too. Was coming up on a house and a dog started barking like crazy. I saw him, and he saw me. Was a german shepard (the pitbull of the 70s). He started running towards me, and was faster. I nearly crapped my pants, stopped the bike to protect myself, he jumped on me.... and just wanted to play. I think that may have been my first experience with kharma.

Anyhoo... never got one of them there mini bikes. Got a moped though, when I was 15. May have liked that even better. Still waiting on a motorcycle. Maybe for my 60th B'day, which is a bit down the line. It'll be my gift to myself for my 3rd or 4th midlife crisis. I can live 120, right?

That's not just any stingray! That's a Krate! I had a Cotton Picker, all white. They had:

Orange Krate
Apple Krate
Pea Picker
Cotton Picker

And probably more I can't remember. They are worth a small fortune now.
