I thought it was pretty unique because, while most home tape recorders were similar to yours (with separate keys for each tape transporting function), mine had just one central knob which, in its center position, stopped the mechanism. One clockwise turn (around 1:00 o'clock) played the tape. A further clockwise turn (around 2:00 o'clock) fast-forwarded the tape. To rewind the tape, a counterclockwise turn (around 11:00) from the center (stop) position was needed.

For recording, a red button to the left of that big center knob should be kept depressed while turning the knob to the play position. There was a volume control to the right of the main knob, and above that volume control there was a blue button that opened the tape compartment lid.

Unfortunately, I can't find any pictures of that tape recorder. It was branded "Megatone", but I'm sure it was a bogus brand.

That cassette recorder is really close to the one I had, but my center knob was different and it didn't have those 2 controls where the speaker is.

As for the cox planes, I wonder if they still make them. With the idiot pranks and practical jokes I see kids playing on facebook (and TV) these days, those planes could be deadly. I almost lost my fingers more than once. Got cut pretty badly anyhow. Would be hilarious to fly one of those into someone's head while they were sleeping, ya know!

Yes, that was sarcasm.

When I was a kid, my dad was always buying things that he thought were cool. One time in the mid 1960s, he bought a gas powered airplane and took us to the local airport parking lot and started to fly it there and nobody said anything. Imagine doing that today!

Radio Development and Research Corp.(RDR) Bottle radio with bakelite base, with Gallagher & Burton's Blended Scotch Whiskey label. Bottle cap is the on/off switch and tuning knob. Reverse side of the radio showing the guts/chassis stuffed within the bottle.

That would be tops on my next vehicle list if they made a modern version. Heck, I considered a Mustang when I made my last car purchase, but the lack of a hatchback option was a deal killer (need to be able to fit an upright in there somehow).
